about a month ago i was very low compared to normal. The ward doctor prescribe venlafaxine and im currnetly taking 225mg. He never really told me exactly why he prescribed them and since he was the ward doctor ive not seen him since (and dont want to)... anyone have any idea how venlafaxine would help?

Did he say he prescribed it for BPD? Is it possible he was prescribing it for something else?
Anyway, I think if your BPD behaviours have increased something isn't right here. Is there another doctor you could chat with about how you're feeling at the moment, see if there's any changes that could be made that you think might help?

BPD isnt supposed to be treated with meds, it comorbid depression/anxiety etc that they would be used for.
I personally found sort of the same, not that i have bpd, but after a month of taking them i tried to kill myself and felt very suicidal the first 2 months. Not sure if its related or the meds hadnt really started to work yet though..
so personally i kept at it for 2-3 month, albeit i was in hospital so i couldnt do anything really, and feel a bit better now.
but still get suicidal thoughts and depressive thoughts, little motivation etc, but a bit better than before which is an improvement i guess.
but maybe you should see your dr anyways. x

I took venlasflaxine for around 4-5 years. I really wouldn't recommend anyone to take that drug. I stopped taking it the end of last year because of many issues it had caused and it was the hardest thing to stop taking and the side effects from stopping are awful, seriously terrible and im only recently fully recovering. If you need anymore info i can help theres also loads and loads of slimier stories online.
i just wish the doctors would know what they are giving people and not just hand out drugs so easily.

i am finding venlafaxine the best antidepressant that ive been on and when i come off it, i guess i will deal with it but in the mean time i am happy to have several years with mild depression.

I'm fine! Totally fine. I don't know why it's coming out all loud and squeaky, 'cause really, I'm fine!
Who else is fine?!?!?

It's an antidepressant. For me it has literally been a life saver.
Kino, I think it's really inappropriate to say that you wouldn't recommend it to anyone - only a doctor can decide its appropriateness in each individual patint's case.

Pink Freud i think thats the same reason they gave it to me and to help with impulsive behaviors.
Ami i was given fluoxitne 4 or so years ago for depression and it made me severly suicidal to the point i tried a few times before they took me off the meds.
Snow White. I ended up seeing the doctor again and he was a dick so i left, but i am seeing a new doctor in two weeks so hopefully they will sort out meds. And i managed to tell a bit of whats been happening to my therapist. It was helpful but im worried that if i ask for more help that it will somehow backfire, like if i say everything that's been going on then they will put me in hospital and stuff.
