Specialist Inpatient Units...

I will be going to a specialist inpatient unit to do DBT but they don't know which one yet. Are there any that you would recommend? What ones should I avoid. I've been to The Dene (partnerships in care) for 11 months and that was crap, I'd hate to go through that again.

The ones that have been mentioned by the team so far are The Priory - Roehampton, Cygnet - New Dawn and St. Andrews. So if anyone has any information on them that would be great.

I think fragileasglass is at the roehampton one? I know someone who went to new dawn, well two people but one was on the ed unit. They didn't recommend new dawn for dbt.
I think though in the end, with all the places you only get out what you put in,like if you don't want to be there then it won't work/you won't change unless you put a fair amount of effort in.(i think that's why new dawn didn't work for the person i know).

i just wanted to echo that comment, especially with dbt if you haven't done it before, you really need to want to do it, you have to do a lot of hard work in and out of therapy. I don't have experience of doing it I{ which is maybe easier idk. But be prepared for hard work :)

i have heard some good things about st andrews from a few patients.
and i also agree with wanting to do dbt, otherwise it just wont work.

i also agree with PiC being ****, i was at another one of their hospitals :/

I'm fine! Totally fine. I don't know why it's coming out all loud and squeaky, 'cause really, I'm fine!

Who else is fine?!?!?

Thanks for the advice - very helpful.

I've never done DBT before. I do want to do it but I would have preferred to have done it in the community but as that's not an option then I'll have to go inpatient.

I've got a couple of friends who are currently doing DBT in the community. I think one of them is finding it beneficial and the other is struggling a bit.

I'm willing to give DBT a try. I've heard mixed reviews about it but I won't know for sure until I try.

I guess I wanted to know whether they are any good but as some people have pointed out it depends on what you put in as to what you get out.

Huntercombe roehampton is supposed to be good for dbt related support and recovery, however long stays are expected in huntercombe, specially this unit my friends been there 4 years now.

I haven't heard much about Huntercombe. I'll have a look at their website. I couldn't imagine staying that long!

I've thought of a question...how many people are there roughly on each ward does anyone know? I prefer just a few. The Dene had about 20 and I found that too much.

Roehampton has 10, well, 10 beds, but there are only 6/7 patients right now. It may say 12 on the website still, but I know they have decided to make it a 10 bed unit.

Cygnet, Ealing has 12ish, maybe 15, they increased in size since my partner went.
