HICKIES.

hahaha. I know this is a stupid thread, but I'm bored, hopefully that doesn't infuriate anyone.

I'm just curious, what is with the taboo stigma on hickies? Why does it feel like something to be ashamed of in normal everyday situations. I mean, is it that it's related to sex? Does everyone who looks at my neck think about the fact that I definitely was having some kind of sexual encounter last night, and that bothers them? Is that the taboo part? Or is it just "rude"? And why?

I want your opinions on the subject!
Go!

(Annd feel free to tell me I'm an idiot :D <3 )

I personally have no problem with hickies, but they can look a little....Messy and just looks horrible.

But each to their own.

I love em, I feel about 14 saying that, but I do haha.
I dont think there's anything taboo about them within my circle of friends at all, just the sign of a good night hahah.

Although I can understand people not wanting to see them, as it is clear what it's from... I remember seeing my mum with one once. -shudders-

In terms of a reasonably formal work environment, they aren't very professional looking. From my own personal perspective, I don't like them. I don't like them to look at and I don't like getting them.

I don't like them, I refuse to let anyone give me one where they're visible. I think they look a bit tacky. My mum's ex used to give her love bites, to mark her as his possession so no one else would go near her, which I think is really disgusting and probably why I dislike them so much.

There are times to stay put, and what you want will come to you.
But there are times to go out into the world and find such a thing for yourself.

This.

It's similar to walking around with a big sign saying "I JUST HAD A SEXUAL ENCOUNTER" - we don't want to know.

I think they're disgusting and have been extremely pissed off the two times I have been given one. Just look cheap and nasty. :S

Indeed.

I don't even work in an overly formal work enviorment (tattoos are extremely welcome) & I'm a manager with blue hair for Pete's sake, but if one of my members of staff came in with one I'd want them to cover it up as customers can be very picky.

I think most people just don't like how they look really. & personally I associate them with teenagers, not adults. Like I would have expected to see them in school but I wouldn't expect to see people with them in Uni.

Most people don't like walking around with a bruise that other people can see (like a bruise from an accident or something), they usually try cover it up. So hickies are similar in that sense.

They don't bother me much to be honest, although when people feel the need to explain them in detail it's like 0.o

I've always found the opposite, most people I know if they have a whopper of a bruise have a strange need to show the world and it's friend.

Really? My niece & nephew would be like that, wanting to tell you the whole story but most people I know would hide it. I think it's in my head from my mam particularly, she gets these really purple bruises from the slightest thing. They make her really embarrassed & she always tries to cover them up.
