I'm not really sure where to put this as it's not a support thread but I'd like serious replies.
My whole life I've had experiences of strong deja vu where I'll be doing something and feel like I've done this exact thing before, down to what I'm doing, where I'm doing it, minor minor details about the event and the 'scene' etc.
I never thought much of it and just thought it was, if not normal, something that happened to some people and was nothing to worry about.
Recently I met someone with a temporal lobe tumour causing epilepsy. She always gets deja vu during her petit mal seizures and the deja vu feeling is how she knows she's having a seizure.
What I'm wondering is does anyone know anything about deja vu and links to diseases or disorders? I've done some internet searching and there seems to be links there but I never know what to trust on the internet.

Deja vu is caused from one eye not processing the information it sees quite as fast as the other eye. How it fits in with other disorders, I couldn't tell you.

I get it all the time. To a very annoying extent. I will have problems knowing whether something has happened before because my deja vu is very real and about something minor that really could've happened before. Like I won't know if I had a conversation before, etc. I remember I first started getting it at 11 years old, which is a very young age to get a normal deja vu since you have very few experiences at that age. Now it comes and goes, with sometimes it happening a ton at once and I just start ignoring it, knowing all that stuff could not have happened before.
I do have migraine with aura, so I don't know if it could be related? Being in neuroscience, I know that a lot of this type of thing is hard to effectively study. I get olfactory hallucinations as a part of my aura, in fact it's the primary symptom when I'm getting an aura. But even with the access I have to research journals with school, it took me forever to find case studies of this occurring. There's only been a few, despite it being a regular occurrence for me. All specialists I've mentioned it to have never heard of it. Also I know migraines share a lot of similarities with seizures as far as symptoms, especially migraine with aura, and so I wouldn't be surprised if it was related. But I'd have to look it up for sure.

Guess it does occur in migraine auras. Perhaps that's the cause with you? I know I also get occasionally aura without migraine. Guess I need to start noticing when I get a lot of deja vu as it's probably another warning sign of a migraine that I have learned to ignore! So thank you for this thread! If you google it, there's a lot more. So if you get migraines, that might be all it is. But if not, you might want to get checked out for seizures, etc. I know I was afraid for so long I had seizures or tumors or something. A lot of it also got written down to mental health problems that didn't exist. Then one doctor explained it was just an aura to me and it all made sense. Not sure why no other doctor could figure that out but whatever. It really actually helps predict a migraine and helps me take medication before it starts up too bad and I can often avoid the entire thing. Anyway here's one article I found that references de ja vu in migraine aura. There's a lot more if you google it.

I've often wondered if I get migraines, I've had headaches for years and am kind of used to them and I'm not sure if the bad ones are actually migraines or not?! But I've never noticed a connection between having deja vu and getting a headache.
I also have problems knowing which circumstance is real - the one happening now or the one I remember happening before. If that makes sense.
I think mine started around age 8 but it could have been before as well, not sure. My earliest memory of having a really strong deja vu experience was in a petrol station around age 8.
I think that if I asked my GP to start the ball rolling for some kind of neurological exam she would look at me like I'm a nutter.

You have a right to a neurological exam. I obviously can't know whether you have migraines, but I do know that migraines are more a neurological disorder than a bad headache. For me, the aura comes hours to 2 days before the headache and sometimes the aura is worse than the headache. I've only had truly debilitating headaches a few times but get aura with moderate headache often more than once a month, and its often associated with my period. So if you think you have migraine symptoms, it's worth checking out. Headache is just the most famous symptom and some people like myself don't have them as the only/major symptom.

My bad headaches are often accompanied by feeling sick and blurry/starry vision. But I don't think there is a connection between getting them and getting deja vu.

I used to get deja vu tons when i was little. There was this one place where i often got it, sp id get deja vu of having deja vu. Pretty much ad infinitum, really blows your mind when your about nine years old. I wonder if there were some toxic substance in that play area that made me go wierd
