Have you ever felt like... you have nobody your own age to talk to? Like nobody wants you around? Like nobody realises how lonely you are? Like you want to reach out but its impossible? Like... you're lost...?
I feel really really... unheard right now. I feel really sad but I have nobody to talk to... nobody who will really listen, no empathy, no real support, just ...empty words, nothing meaningful, nothing sympathetic. It feels like nobody understands.
I feel so alone. I'm on my gap year so most of my school friends are at uni and the ones who are still in london, never call, i never see them, they are too busy with thier own lives, thier new uni friends... i've tried to plan things with a couple of them and they just never call/text back... it hurts so much. Everyone seems to have thier own friends, uni friends, school friends, art college friends, old friends... and I have none of that any more. All I have is a couple of people I see infrequently, most of whom I cant really talk to either because I dont know them well enough (the people I go to college with) or because I've tried and end up feeling not-listened-to.
I just want somebody to hold me and say it's ok, im here for you, it's going to be alright. I understand.
anyone?
hugs are welcome and appreciated, but words help more.
I understand totally about the age thing. Also aloneness. And the need to be held safe.
I hear you reaching out, and I am sitting with you in virtual space...
How would you feel about getting some counselling support where you are?
I know how hard it is to feel isolated from the people you know and care about. I can completely relate, I moved schools away from all the people I knew, and it was soo difficult. Try and keep reaching out, even if you are not heard by some people there are many people who would be more than willing to listen. You'll never be completely alone. *hugs*

I know how you feel. I had no friends in middle school or high school- I was unbelievably lonely. I'm here if you EVER wanna talk about anything! *holds you*

I won't be on RYL much right now because I'm REALLY triggered, but I'm safe... so don't worry...
I can really relate to this. I went to university but dropped out after a few months, while ALL my friends stayed and got new friends and new lives. We lost touch with each other and i felt EXACTLY how you describe. I had no close friends and felt completely alone.
Things did change though. Things got better, and they will for you too hun. I had to stop trying to make things back how they used to be, which was really hard, but inevitable.
I don't know if things will go the same way for you hun, but what i'm trying to say is that if they do, it isn't the terrible thing it seems like.
There's no harm in finding new places to go and making new friends. Even if your current friends come back from Uni and you carry on as you left off, then the new friends you make in the meatime just mean you have extra ones.
I know it's not easy.. you don't just walk out of the door and pick a new friend who will be just as good as your old ones. Things won't be the same, but they can be just as good, in a different way.
Also, talk to your friends who have gone to University. Explain to them that you feel alone. Tell them you understand they have new people at Uni, but that you want to maybe be a part of it. Go and visit them if you can, join in on things.
There is no simple answer, but i think it's something a lot of people feel when friends go separate ways at Uni and beyond.
Things will get easier for you, i'm sure of that.
(I'm sorry if this answer is rather rambled, or if it makes no sense - i'm on high levels of meds from hospital and it's rather like being drunk!)
That sounds horrible - but I think a lot of people on here can relate.
Obviously it hurts when things change and friends drift away, but I assume as you are on your gap year that you are going to Uni next year/September?
Well, that means you'll be making tons of new friends, and that'll be brilliant for you. All you gotta do is find a way to do this until then.
I really don't have any constructive advice - but RYL is always here for you (just look at how many hugs you got) so you're never completely alone :)
Thanks everybody. You've all made me feel less alone. For those of you who are in the same situation, please do PM me any time, if I can do anything to help, even just idle chit-chat, I'll do my best. Being alone is so painful, I feel for every one of you.
To answer a couple of questions - I've had counsellors, they didnt help me at all, I'm trying to find a decent therapist but it's turning out to be a nightmare. And yes I'm going to Uni next year... im just so afraid that I wont make friends there either...
Maybe there's something wrong with me, like... I'm just not friend-worthy??
I'm sure you are 'friend-worthy'! Knowone isn't. I know how horrible it can be to feel like that, but probably not to the same scale. If you ever need to talk just PM me. I'm not that great a comforter, but i can talk about anything and just be someone to be there. Remember RYL is here for you too. Hope you feel ok soon.

When one door of happiness closes another one opens, but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one that has been opened for us.
i know how you feel and you are friend-worthy. I get how you feel about how you have no one your age to talk to. if you want to talk just PM me anytime. Hope this helped atleast a little.
