nybody know anything about amitriptyline? Got a bad feeling
So, Ive been having jaw problems, and after a number of failed treatments ive been prescribed a small amount of an anti depressant, much lower dosage than is actually used to treat depression, because in that amount it works like a muscle relaxant.
However, the leaflet of side effects wasnt clear as to if the effects change with the dose, and a lot of it worries me. Theres all the stuff about thoughts of suicide/harming myself, and not taking it if you get manic, which i do a bit. I would have said at the time, but my mum was with me. Next time im goingnto go to the appointment alone but thats in a month. Anybody know anything at all? Im stuck for what to do

The main thing really is to be as self aware as possible, and also keep relevant people informed about your thoughts/feelings, people closest to you can be very useful for picking up on side effects that you may find hard to recognise yourself.
If you do find yourself having suicidal thoughts, make sure you go straight back to the doctors to discuss them, I suppose these rules apply when being on any anti-depressant. Just to be vigilant, and keep the side effects in mind.
About the manic bouts, this is definitely something that needs mentioning to the doctor... Could you maybe try and book an appointment earlier if you are having problems with the manic aspect?

I cant. Its the dental hospital in a city near where i live, and it takes me about an hour to get to said city, then obviously find the damn hospital. Mums always taken me before, but i couldnt ask her for this, she knows nothing about whats going on with my mental health and its got to stay that way. For the same reason, there arent really people around me who i can ask to keep an eye on me. There are peopl, but i dont see them a whole lot, im going through a bad patch atm anyway, and in a week im going away for a fortnight, so im double stuck then.
I dont entirely know what to say to him if i do go back anyway. The guys a dentist, id guess hes not an expert on mental health too. Hed tkae me off them i guess, but i dont think he has any more ideas to treat my jaw after that.
This is stressing me out rather

I'm on it for non anti depressant reasons and haven't found it's made my self harm worse or made me suicidal. But everyone is different. Like others have says, be aware and see your doc for any issues.
Ok, thanks guys thats quite reassuring. I was just worried because it said all the risks are more likely if you already have those sort of problems.
And its only at night at the moment so i dont care if it makes me sleepy, the dentist said it might cause sleep disturbance
