Will GP presribe me painkillers?

My CMHT will not give me a prescription no matter how small because they fear I will overdose.

I moved GP's in January and have not yet been to my new surgery.

I've been suffering from back pain recently, something I suffered from badly a few years ago and my previous GP presribed a very effective painkiller.

I have made an appointment with my new doctors for Tuesday, will they know about CMHT not giving me tablets of any kind? Do you think he will presribe something?

It is likely that it will be already on your GP notes as all notes from your old GP are just passed straight over.

They might but they might not. It is hard to say. But personally I would be supprised if a a new GP would give out any meds without caution. They will have the most caution because you are a new patient.

I hope they are able to help your back pain though x

Perhaps they can advise on alternative ways of easing the pain if need be - for example with a pain relieving gel, osteopathy, or similar?

I agree with what's been said, I would imagine it'd already be on your notes, which I assume your new surgery would have by now.

I was given painkillers in the form of gel because my doctor was wary about giving me tablets. I've also had weekly prescriptions when I've needed tablets to reduce the risk of me overdosing.
