Roehampton Priory, PD unit *update*

Hi everyone,

I thought that I would post and update you on how I've been doing. I've been thinking about RYL a lot recently so now seemed the right time to post.

I am not getting on well with the three other patients here. They say that they have things in common which I don't have apparantly. I feel bullied, lonely, scared and isolated. There's a new patient coming here next week. Hopefully we'll get on with each other and I'll get a friend.

It's a 12 bed unit and my psychiatrist is doing as he said he would - slowly introducing people so that by the end of the year the unit will be full.

We're 4 months into the programme starting but I have been here 4 1/2 months. I was an emergency admission - I was too unsafe in the community. I had planned suicide. I was admitted on the 2nd April and had my 30th birthday two days later on the 4th April. A lonely time.

I only get my dongle for 1/2 hour a night so I will wind up soon.

The programme is relatively good. Luckily I like my psychologist and am about to enter Trauma work with her as I'm entering stage 2 of the programme.

The shrink is ok.

I am learning and it is helping here but it is hard to study when you are being bullied.

I will write more later this week.

Thinking of you all.

Lots of love and hugs - I hope you are ok.

Liddy xx

i'm glad you came back to post. i remember hearing that you were going and hoping that it went well for you. i'm sorry that is hasn't been as helpful as it might've been. but i think that any unit that small (four people) would be bound to have some problems, just like too large a unit would. as more people come you'll probably find more people that you connect with.

this is my magical medicine cabinet. Left to right they contain: courage, hope, calmness, and strength.

The magical part: They NEVER run out, so borrow some any time you want.

PM me anytime, I love getting messages :)

Hey Liddy

ive been wondering how you are and its really good to hear from you - youve been missed!

im sorry things are difficult right now and i hope they improve. Is there anyone either inside the unit ie staff or outside which you feel you can talk to about the situation with the other patients even if only to let off steam? It sounds really difficult to deal with especially alone but as said above hopefully this may at least improve a little soon when more new people come.

A big well done for perservering and trying to get the absolute most from this and keep talking when you want/feel able/are allowed online. We are always here and im sure many of us think of you a lot as i do.

Thanks for the update.Stay strong Liddy.Keep fighting.

xx xx

i do not always manage to be around but i wish you all the very best - love and luck to you all!

I am glad you are making progress in the unit, can you talk to the staff about feeling like you are being bullied?

Thinking of you and yes please do let us know how things are tomorrow if you can.

i hope you arent feeling too bad and unsafe especially after all that has happened. Remember to use the staff support etc you have there if you feel able and need to.

Take care.

Thanks Ballerina123. The bullying seems to have subsided today and yes, I hope the new patient becomes my friend too.

I'll tell you something though. I've been gone only 4 months and so many people have either left or changed their names, it's incredible!

I'm glad it's Friday night. The week days are particulary tiring and by Friday I'm falling asleep in group! We have groups on Saturday and Sunday mornings but they are put back a while so we have an extra hour in bed.

xx

Hi Liddy,

It's lovely to hear from you although I am very sorry to hear how isolated and bullied you are feeling at the unit. I wish it was different for you and I truly hope that the new patient next week will be more friendly and that you will have something in common :)

It sounds like you are working really hard on yourself, despite the difficulties you are faced with which you should be really proud of yourself for.

I hope you enjoy the extra hour in bed tomorrow.
Thinking of you lovely xx

Hehe, I'm glad you found a familiar face :) Sorry I didn't see your post last night.

I'm not too bad thank you.

Hoping you've had a peaceful Saturday morning!

I saw in the other thread that the other patients were spoken too yesterday? I truly hope that helps and they recognise that it can't continue as it has been. xx

I'm sending you tons of cuddles Liddy. I'm always here if you need someone to talk to. I hope you get on well with the new patient and that you make a friend, it can be very isolating when you haven't anyone to socialize with or connect with in terms of relating to another with your struggles on a ward, but I'm glad the programe seems to be helpful, you're doing so well, keep fighting lovely, you're amazing and inspirational.

I hope the bullying stops, too. I was bullied also when I was sectioned, it's horrible, it's the last thing you need, so I do hope they stop bullying you and leave it well alone, I'll come kick some ass if they don't stop!

[P.S. It's Sarah, I changed my name too, not sure if you'll recognize me!]

xxxxx
Lots of love!

Bullying should not be tolerated. Have you spoken to anyone on the unit about this? If anything it will hinder recovery. I'm so sorry this is happening.

Keep strong and good luck xox

Hello hello! Good to hear from you!

I'm glad to hear that there's been at least some positives in your experience, and I hope things improve with the other patients.

Good luck!

Oh dear. Everyone was lovely from Friday till yesterday. It was so nice to have a settled unit. Then a new patient came yesterday which threw everything up in the air. Now they are bitching about me again (bar the new girl). My friend told me to keep myself to myself and I should follow his advice really.

I have graduated from stage 1 to stage 2!! There are 3 altogether. I was the first patient so I was bound to be the first to graduate. You get more priveleges and move to the next floor which is quieter and more private.

Yes the staff know about the bullying but what is that worth?!

Geez I've missed you guys. I've been in this unit 4 1/2 months now believe it or not! Another 8 months to go : (

You stay usually more than a year you see.

I have a headache so I'll sign off now.

*love* xx

You are doing really well Liddy. Congratulations on graduating to the next level, I'm glad you will get more privacy on the next floor.

I'm sorry to hear about the bullying though :(

Fingers crossed you and the new patient will form an alliance of sorts? xxx

Wow, time flies, can't believe you've been in there so long already! Congratulations for graduating to the next stage! How are you feeling? Like, I'm guessing graduating means you've tackled certain issues, or reached certain milestones? [Sorry if I'm chatting shit here, I'm not familiar with the programme you're on at all!]
