I know a lot of people it seems always meet people when they're on a night out or something, i don't like going out on the town, firstly i don't enjoy it as it's too busy and i get anxious, secondly i don't drink, and thirdly feel a bit old to go out round the clubs and stuff as it's usually filled with people much younger than me.
I want to meet some new people and expand my friend circle a bit, i have a few very close friends, and one or two others i see occasionally, but i feel very lonely and want to meet new people.
I'm kind of in the same position. I'm pretty isolated but am not keen on the whole pubbing/clubbing scene (where I don't really think you get to meet new people). One thing I've been looking at are meet-up sites like City Social, where you can arrange to meet people through similar interests/events... dancing/singing/exercise classes can be a good option.
I've met a great deal of new people recently through my fitness/Zumba class. We've now known each other for around a year and arrange socials and things. Generally, we're not fans of the pub either, though we do go there sometimes, so perhaps you could go down to an exercise class and get invested that way?
You say taht you have a few close friends, could you do more with them? Maybe they have hobbies and interests that you could go along with them to. It can help to have someone by your side when joining these things.
I've looked at those meet up group things suggested, but nobody likes the stuff i like. I'm into ghosts/paranormal stuff, collecting crystals, watching storms at the coast....
I went pool the other night with my mate, which was nice, but we we're the only ones there lol
I do see my close friends quite a lot, especially recently since my breakup, but don't want to be relying on them, which is why i feel i need to expand my group of friends to a few more. One of my close friends is into ghosts/paranormal stuff and crystals which is amazing and we get on really well, i just feel i want to meet some new people with similar interests so as to not bombard them all the time.
She's mentioned a friend who's into ghosts so we might him soon and go on a ghost hunt somewhere, which will be good if it happens.
I've been to the gym before and it just wasn't me. Didn't like it so i didn't go back, so i won't be going to the gym again.
Cool! Hello fellow paranormal enthusiast :) there are a few groups in my area, but im not sure theyd want anyone else joining them as theyve got a big group already but will show it to my mate and see what she thinks.
We were thinking of gettings some more equipment and starting our own group but need a bit of moeny first to buy some more stuff.
I might try and make contact with the group ive seen and see what they say.
Go for it!! Let me warn you though, starting your own team takes a lot of hard work and you have to find the right team members in order for things to go smoothly. Being in the Paranormal field, there's a lot of drama and it's very cut throat field to be in.
Other teams that we have worked with have stabbed us in the back. Some of the teams out there only care about getting on TV and such. With our team, we don't care about getting our own TV show. We care about our clients and will do anything to help them. Our team also raises money for other non profit organizations.
Sounds like fun!
There seems to be a lot of people who are trying to get on TV these days since Most Haunted ceased airing. I just love anything spooky, and am convinced that ghosts exist, just need to prove it.
I love tea rooms, much better than a noisy smelly pub. Wish they we're open late though like pubs.
Tea rooms should definitely be open late! All that noise and over-the-top ness you get in pubs can be so wearing and frustrating - I also get very anxious and freaked out when it's busy.
I have faced this problem alot (after seeing how everyone was during freshers week I stopped drinking at 18) I now can't drink because of meds and haven't been able to do so for the past 3 odd years. It's been hard keeping friends, especially during uni when a lot of activities are drink focused but the positive thing is that iv found as iv gotten that bit older (I'm now 23) and because I often make friends with those earlier the pressure hasn't been as bad.
Since my accident I have really struggled to make friends, I lost a lot because they couldn't handle with the aftermath of the accident (what do you say or do with someone in a spinal brace and a simmer was a common comment) With that said once I got out the brace I started at a martial arts club, I can't do much but I figured while I was still learning to walk and find ways to cope with the nerve damage I may as well do it in a padded room. I was lucky the club near me have a women only class which I was able to start in until I built my confidence to try a more general class. I think a club like that whether it's martial arts, photography (of the storms you see could be stunning) or following your paranormal interest and joining or even putting together your own team is a fantastic idea. I found a great support network that way, some have struggled as my issues have become apparent but most (the 3 who know) are very good and look out for me.
You should update us on your paranormal adventures! Why not arrange the likes of weekend away to various paranormal places as a fun treat every now and then?
I didn't read the whole thread (I'm drunk right now, and not exactly at my sharpest), but what about going to church/temple? I've met a lot of great people (most of my friends at this point) at synagog. And regardless of religious affiliation, there's likely to be something out there you'd be comfortable with... where I am, there are even a couple of completely secular/atheist congregations! And as far as being older/younger, I have friends from synagog that range in age all the way from 2 to over 60, and plenty within a few years of my age on either side (although most of my closest friends are nowhere close to my age... I'm 25, one of my best friends in in her early 60s, another is 16, one is 7, and one is 2... although I don't exactly turn to those last to for much support or advice :p).
