Didn't know where to post -- SPD/SID.

I've been recently diagnosed with SPD (sensory processing disorder) or SID (sensory integration dysfunction).

It's on the autism spectrum.

Does anyone else have any experience with this? I find it slightly comforting that all of my dysfunctions and anxieties stem from something that other people have issues with as well... But there's obviously a sense of helplessness because there's no "cure" or medication for SPD/SID.

And I'm not sure how to react to that it puts me on the autism spectrum. I know the spectrum is very wide.. but still.

Hey honey. I know that getting any diagnosis, especially one that doesn't have an easy 'cure' or 'treatment', is never easy. But just because there is no easy fix, no simple pill (which, trust me, are never the magical fix yo want anyway) doesn't mean that you can't recover and get your life back. I'm not on the autistic spectrum, so I can't really say anything about that aspect, but I understand the feeling of relief yet panic at a firm diagnosis.

Maybe do some research on your disorder? Find out what's helped other people who suffer this, maybe see if there are support forums specifically for SPD? I found that useful when I was diagnosed with PTSD.

PM me if you'd like to talk, I don't know how much use I'd be, but I'm here to listen if you want to rant.
Take care sweetheart.

And some have come to help, or to hurt -

Ask me what difference
Their strongest love or hate has made.

Hey there,

I understand perhaps the anger or frustration in the fact that there may not be a "cure", and although there may very well not be a magical instant cure for this, or medication, etc, there could be some things out there to help you with this, perhaps some therapies or support groups?

As above said, perhaps doing some reading on your disorder and other peoples experiences of it, maybe that will help in feeling less alone with it, but also you may pick up some tips that could be helpful in dealing/coping with your disorder as well as support/advice for your own symptoms that you experience and others could offer advice/support for this, too.

The internet is a great resource in research, and there is a lot out there no doubt that could help you with your disorder, and the symptoms you experience.

It's not a complete dead end just because there may not be a magical cure for this, there are a lot of disorders and illnesses out there that have no cure or little treatments available, but there are ways to cope better with your disorder and you, as above said, can try to get your life back or at least handle things better with this disorder.

Perhaps also talking to the person who diagnosed you with this could help, too? Asking all the questions you have, asking what could help you with this disorder and coping with it, and advice in dealing with this disorder, etc etc?

Take care and good luck.

I learned just a couple of months ago after some testing that I too have a sensory processing disorder. If you ever want to talk about experiences, feel free to message me. I'd be very interested to know how others are affected by it compared to my own struggles.
Stay strong. <3
