SI Question - SI object rusty and dirty...how to make it safest?

I've relapsed recently, and I tend to fixate on a certain object or objects. I won't be specific, as that's against the rules, but my main object has some rust on it, and I don't know when the last time it's been cleaned (besides me washing it under some warm water) I've used the object, but have not gotten deep, so I hope that means I didn't do anything that could really hurt me. I don't tend to clean my SI wounds, mainly because I'll ALWAYS go with methods that are more harmful for my skin/future healing then good (won't be specific). Is there any tips to make the object in question better? I've heard that boiling it in hot water helps, but it has a plastic...thingy. Not trying to be vague there, just not sure what it's called. Anyway, the plastic will melt if I boil it.

They lie closed over in the wind and cling

Unfortunately, it's going to be really hard for me not to use said object because of the obsessiveness...I think it's my Autism manifesting, I'm frustrated.

I would avoid using that object (if you can't stop altogether) because as has been said it could give you a bad infection and if that's left untreated it can make you very sick. I hope your urges pass soon so you feel better.

Scrubbing with wire wool might help with the rust?
Maybe if you did boil it so you can't use it, or find some other way to get rid of it, might be safest.

I've heard you can soak stuff in vinegar or rub with a mixture of baking soda/lemon juice to remove rust. And scrubbing it with a wire brush or wire wool, etc. Haven't tried it myself though.

I'd probably scrub it as said above to get the rust off and soak it in a solution of water with a teaspoon of bleach in for an hour or so then RINSE REALLY WELL and dry thoroughly.

Even as the stone of the fruit must break

There are only two ways in which one can live their life. One is as though nothing is a miracle, the other is as though everything is.

I didn't think of this before, I might replace the rusted part, it comes out...not sure where I would get one though, especially without anybody knowing. Thanks for the help guys!
