Anxiety & Itching - Please help me explain it to my doctor!

I'm presuming that this is related to anxiety but I guess it could be anything to do with my depression, possible bi-polar and borderline personality disorder.

I can't really say I get this when I'm stressed, sometimes I just get it when I wake up in the middle of the night.

It feels almost like a tingeling in my legs which is itchy. When I itch it though the "itch" is actually 3mm away from where I "think" it is. Then it moves again, when I move to scartch the new spot. I also get it in my toe and finger nails and no matter how hard I press down to relieve the itch it just doesn't go.

I'm terrible at explaining stuff and don't want my doctor to sit there looking at me like I've lost my mind. If anyone has had something similar like this can they explain it in their own words as it might help my doctor understand me a bit more!

Thanks!

Is that like restless leg syndrome? I've never experienced what you're talking about, but it sounds irritating :( It does sound like it could be one of those random anxiety things, but there are lots of weird sleep conditions too, so maybe it's one of those?

i have something i think might be similar to what u have described.
if i sit for long periods or when i am trying to go to sleep i get really itchy legs, mostly below the knee. nothing satisfies the itch. i have to wear gloves to bed ad i have torn my legs to pieces. i just rake my nails up and down my legs.
apparently its related to anxiety and stress which would make sense with me. i was advised to avoid stressful situations which i thought was ridiculous. i have found that Simple intensive derma cream is amazing at soothing my sore legs and stops the itching after about 3 days. u have to put it on every night or the itching comes back. maybe you could give that a go.

hope this has been helpful.

take care

Is there any chance it could be linked to any kind of withdrawal? that can sometimes cause itching.
Otherwise just be honest with your gp, they won't just think your mad - it could be something like restless leg syndrome, or eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis or could be linked to your mh. So its worth popping in.

i get restless legs some nights..but mine isn't an itch...more like the need to stretch all the time..
it is uncomfortable..
it could be a possible side effect of a med you're on. I have found the ones that make you drowssy can set it off.. or steriods (My grandmother gets it when she has her asthma pumps).
I suggest you really moan at your gp about it..just keep bringing it up.
