Mild self injury?

I have decided I've been "free" for a month, but I just realized I'm not. I scratch at myself still or bite my tounge. I can't quit and I was wondering, is it contradictary to consider yourself "self injury free" and still do minor things like that?

I'm not really sure as I've been wondering the same thing. The times I considered myself to be free from SI, I was still doing little things like picking at my skin and mild hair pulling. I guess that it is an improvement, you've at least reduced the severity of the injury....

I think the fact that you've made such a reduction in your self injuring behaviours is something to be incredibly proud of of. One step at a time.

Um...to be honest I am not sure, ( I still struggle with that too) but the fact that there is a reduction in your self-harm behaviors is something to be proud of.

I'm not sure either. I pick at my scabs from cutting, and I'm not sure if I should still consider that self harm while I'm trying to stop. I guess I should. Though better picking than cutting, and once all the cuts have healed, there'll be nothing to pick! Like the above poster said, one step at a time. Congrats on being a month free! :)

I agree with Buttons the fact that you have managed to reduce your self-harm is a positive thing and something to be proud of. Still harming with the intention of hurting yourself would still be considered self-harm but it is important to instead focus on the steps you have taken instead. Take care
