Nobody believes my trauma
My SI resulted from a trauma happening to somebody else in my family. The experience was so traumatizing that it hit me. However, nobody believes me when they say it is a good enough reason. When I first did it my mom said 'now you're exactly like your sister.' Is my addiction to SI reasonable or did I start it to get attention? every therapist I every went to said 'well, it must be some cry for help' but sometimes I feel like it's just some way for me to be able to feel, to have some sort of sensation coming from my body when it gets numb. Is this normal? Is my SI legitimate or just some cry for attention? I could really use support :-/

If you aren't consciously making the choice to SI for attention, then you aren't doing it for attention. Trauma can definitely be a trigger for SI. Even though SI isn't a good path to go down, you have the right to love and support to get through urges and hard times- and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. SI doesn't make you any less important, or make you a bad person and anyone who tries to knock you down for a bad choice is beign very ignorant- because even if someone else sees it as nothing- its real to you, and they have no right to tell you how you feel- only you know how you feel.
Dont forget that there are many people that care for you and are here to help you through this. And that includes me. :)
Stay safe, stay strong. xx

I've come accross children experiencing the unspoken trauma of their parents in some research i did for an essay. It can affect them just as much as the actual experience affected their parents. I would guess there's perhaps something similar you could have suffered because of what your sister was going through? Seems valid enough to me. Hope you're both ok

The two aren't mutually exclusive. It's not a bad thing to look for attention, or to seek validation for your own feelings.
