From my experience I'd say about 40% of women do. But it's usually only a little bit. And trust me that either nobody notices or just the midwife and she/he will be very used to it.

However my friend from work did twice but shed had an epidural so the only reason she knew is cause the fan at the bottom of her bed blew up the smell and she said she was so out of it by then she didn't resly care!
I know a midwife and I had this conversation with her randomly and she said most woman poop before labour naturally in a kind of body getting ready for labour kind of way. However, not all people do and thus they poop when pushing but generally the midwifes clear you up so often people don't realise they've pooped etc.

i am super paranoid about it. more so than the actual pain of labour.ive told my boyfriend that when i do go into labour hes to let me go to the toilet before we go anywhere near a hospital.

Mand, When my wife was in established labor, her contractions were only about 2 minutes apart, she had no time to get up with all of the iv's and such and use the bathroom. They had her on a cathider
You will have plenty of other juices and assorted yum yum's coming out, you are gonna make a big mess whether or not there is poop involved. :-P

mostly in the UK i believe they only use catheters when you have an epidural. my contractions were 2 mins apart then 1 min apart once they started, but i was allowed to use the bathroom and just took a drip stand with me, stopped to for contractions every so often. walking helps speed up labour so mostm idwives are up for that!

That makes sense, I've not had children but I talked about it with my Mom who has given birth five times, and she said she didn't poop during any of the births.
I was petrified of this! but I didnt with either of my two children.
The body tends to soften your stools prior to labour to sort of 'clear out' in prep for baby coming. Most women are so scared of pooing that when its time to push they are scared they need to poo, its not that - thats what baby coming out feels like.
If there is anything left in the lower bowels it WILL be pushed out with babies head on the way out, its not an option or anything that can be prevented. Its a part of the birthing process! xx

I cannot say for sure whether I did or not. If I did I had absolutely NO idea and the midwife would have very discreetly cleared up.
All I do know is I coulnd't poop before I went in (I thought that was what the pains were haha) and I didn't poop for DAYS afterwards. So...I imagine I did in labour!
It sounds silly, but the pooping part really puts me off having a water birth. I don't think it would be quite as discreet to get rid of...damnit
I'm only a couple of months pregnant and this is what is scaring me the most about labour! I'm so glad I'm not the only one worried about it!

First time due to stitches was 4 days before i could poor, 2nd time no stitches and went the day after. For you ladies who might struggle post natally, try sitting side way on the toilet, puts the pressure on a different part, i found out by accident!
