Letting go of anger

My appointment was cancelled and he said it was because he was going home at lunch as he was ill. Although I was polite and said I hoped he felt better soon I'm really angry as he was well enough to do the morning and he is forever telling me how important it is I go to work when I don't feel well and he has more time off than me. I end up with really negative thinking and I know this will be my one thought for the week. I know I'm being unreasonable but I still can't stop it when it happens. What sort of things do other people do? Thanks.

i stomp it out, that is i walk around as fast as possible shoving as much of my anger as possible into each step i take. I also listen to music and write the thoughts over and over on a piece of paper as fast as possible and then tear the paper to pieces as slowly as possible.

Sometimes telling the person is advisable or thats whats been told to me.

hope things get better for you.

I can understand why you are feeling angry, but I also see the other end of the equation as well being someone that works in the field, when you are not feeling well particularly physically it can be extremely difficult to give the time and attention that each client requires and deserves because of what is happening for yourself. To be honest he would have probably been doing a dis-service to you if he stayed and suffered through an appointment....who knows what is morning involved, perhaps it was more practical, office work things like report writing and what have you. Nevertheless a professional is a human and they are allowed to experience human related things, like illness.

I also understand how it can sounds hypercritical hearing that he is going home and he suggests that you stay and push through, but perhaps that is because he feels that part of your work is to push through the symptoms that you are struggling with - which I assume might be things like isolating and sleeping away the day, finding it difficult to push yourself etc.

In terms of how to deal with the anger? Well I think it may be good to write about how it really feels underneath the anger that he cancelled the appointment - perhaps hurt, worry, fear etc? It can be really difficult to have a cancellation planned or otherwise particularly when you are anticipating the appointment to occur.

how are you going now? I hope that you take care of yourself, and please reach out when you need too.

be well darling.

life isn't about finding yourself, it's about creating yourself.

Thanks for that. I was self destructive, but will try the writing down and then ripping it up.

I'm sorry you feel so let down by him :(

Just remember he's only human and these things will happen from time to time, you need to be prepared for them. It won't just be you, there will be other people he cancelled on as well.

Maybe tell him how bad it made you feel when you next see him?

I'm supposed to tell him how things make me feel but I struggle. If I had the appointment I would just be angry over something he did/didn't do, which makes this anger harder to manage. Does that make sense??

Can you write down exactly how you feel and give it to him?

I'm not 'allowed' to write things down as although I find it easier he wants me to learn how to talk to him about things. Thanks though as it is a good idea.

Can you try and be really brave next time you see him and explain how he makes you feel? Write down what you want to say and read it over a few times before you see him so you don't forget anything.

Do other people make you feel angry like this?
