how to go about seeing someone privately?

I've now been on 5 different types of medication for depression and anxiety and suffered years with self harm and my mum isn't happy about the level or lack of benefits they are providing. obviously I know how difficult these things are to treat and im fed up of seeing standard GPs and counsellors so was wondering how in the UK I would go about seeing someone privately?

Share your advice or experiences here if you have any please :) x

If it's counselling or psychotherapy you're after, maybe try the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy website (BACP) where you can search for therapists in your area, whom are accredited by this organisation. I think there's another organisation too, but I can't remember what it is.

I've recently started seeing a psychotherapist privately, it doesn't cost a great deal, she's lowered it a bit because i'm on benefits. I just googled it for the area i'm in and hers was one that came up. She offered one free session in the beginning to see if I could get on with her, and this week will be my third session :) hope you are able to sort something out x x

The past is where you learned the lesson. The future is where you apply the lesson. DON'T GIVE UP IN THE MIDDLE x x

Have you had counselling as well as taking medication? sometimes people need medication and therapy to help with recovery. And have you ever been reffered to CAHMS or CMHT? (I don't know how old you are sorry)

Thank you for your replies.

I'm actually 21 years old so it would be adult services.

I've had combinations of counselling and medication, CBT and medication and am on a waiting list for DBT but its all taking so long I just want to know how I could see someone and be assessed privately if that's possible?

Thank you again.

I've been seen by the Retreat in York. If you are close enough, I would definitely recommend it.
I am not there any more because I have more NHS help instead now, but they helped me to get that.
