Any Advice On Long Distance Relationship?

So hi all... I just having a slow day and thought i would post and just see if I could get any replies on the topic of long distance relationships.
A quick sum up of my situation. I'm dating this guy who i have know for about 4 years. Was never really friends with him just knew him. Almost two months ago we started dating. Things are amazing between us! I could not ask for anything better! The only down side of it is that for the next year and 7 months we will be apart... I live in Missouri and so do his parents. But he is doing an internship in Arkansas for the next 7 months and then he has to go back to school for a year. His school is in Missouri but still about 2 hours away. When he is in school it will not be that big of a deal i can easily drive to see him when I'm not working. But for now with him in Arkansas it gets a bit tricky. He tries to come home when ever he possible can to see me which is usually at LEAST once a month so not to bad.
Basically just asking if anyone out there has any advice for keeping long distance relationships going strong.. thanks in advanced! :)

I was in one for about a year before I moved in with him and it's still amazing now.
We just tried to talk every day whether it was on the phone or Facebook or MSN and tried to see each other as much as we could. I usually went to see him every couple of months and stayed at his for a month each time and it just worked really well.
Trust is a big part of it as well, especially with long distance because obviously you're not with them a lot and you don't know exactly what they're doing. I don't think it would have worked if we hadn't trusted each other but we know each other really well so it was pretty easy for me, I can't say for him because I don't know.
It can work though, it just takes a bit of effort from both of you :)

I was LD for aboutttt 5 years before i moved in with my man. We have now been married two years n together almost 8! We made it work by always being totally honest with each other and trying to talk at least once a day, we were in diff countries, with a 7 hr time difference, so it made it hard to keep in contact, but emails always helped!
N the main thing is, when people start saying, "long distance?! why?" you gotta have an answer, esp for the cynical ones that will keep stating how it wont work :P

Trust and communication are definitely important. Acting insecure and needy is usually a turnoff for most people and it can be a killer for long distance relationships. Sort out any arguments as soon as possible so they don't turn into a big fiasco. Do lots of interesting things during the day and keep up with the news and what's going on around you so that you have lots to talk about. SKYPE! Or...some sort of daily communication, phone's preferable but even Facebook/email will do - whatever you guys decide is the best way to keep in touch. Sending each other little gifts and things every now and again is cute (even if it's just a postcard or something). If you know his parents and are friendly with them then keep in touch and try to spend time with them as well. Same goes for mutual friends :)

I just started a long distance relationship with a guy I have been friends with for two years we would have gotten together sooner but I have had bad experiences with long distance relationships in the past. He lives so far away from me like in California while I live in Georgia but I trust him and he has always treated me good and he knows all about my self harm and eating issues but he is so supportive and just wants me to be happy. I plan to go visit him once I save up the money.

Long distance is not easy at all but communication and trust are so important which are things I lacked with my previous long distance relationships. Make time in your day to text or call him and try to go see him when you are able to. It will be hard but if you love and trust each other it will work out but keep in mind distance changes things.

And that's really sad. It was almost like a reverse nightmare,

I woke up into a nightmare.”

I was with a guy in the army for a year, what kept us going... SKYPE!!!! Every night we were both available. But between him well being in the army and therefore dead busy and me working over 50 hours a week it was hard to get the time but we spoke for a couple for hours a night at least 3 days a week. But yeah trust is a massive thing! He was an army lad, he did go out with the guys most weeks and his mates were getting with all these girls, but I never once felt the need to even ask if he tried it on with a girl cause I felt I could trust him enough. If you feel the need to ask those questions personally I felt then was the relationship ever going to work??

And for all the people who question why you are doing it, well we got on better than I did even with my best friends, and you ca even say that with yous not being together all day every day you dont have the silly little squabbles that other couples had so it was actally easier than being together all the time!

But aswell as skyping we called, texted, emailed, facebooked and went with the traditional letter writing! And yeah it ws hard at times, but when you know you only have 1 more month til the next time you see him you have something to look forward to and keep you going. Also being apart so much you have everything to talk about, they aint there with you all the time so you can tell them everything that has happened even the silly little things that they would love like you went to the shops and "your song" came on, its those wee stories that you can have that a normal relationship wouldnt have.

Personally my LD relationship was one fo the best I have ever had!! So don't let it break you up if you really want to be together! All the best though

Text, email, Skype each other regularly.

Me and my partner use to send each other love letters by mail too. It's really personal and romantic if you send pictures and small gifts too.

Wishing you the best of luck x

It takes a lot of patience and understanding, but if you both want it badly enough im sure it will work! You both need to fully understand and appreciate what you both have on at home, and not be holding grudges. Its so easy to slip in a needy mood, but you cant be so needy if you are both so far away. So learn to just look forward to the time together and fill in the time apart with things that will better your future together when hes done. Its not forever! goodluck :)
