monosyllabic speech

just had a telephone conversation with my Mother. She seemed concerned about me. She said my voice was monosyllabic and that it didn't seem to show emotion, if that makes sense.

is this part of illness?

when she pointed it out i could see why she would say that. I think sometimes my voice is monosyllabic and I can fall over words too/take a while to get some words out.

anyone else get like this?

Lack of spontaneous or limited speech is generally a by-product of depression.

My mam can also tell when I'm low on the phone too. I guess for similar reasons. Usually I find it's because I just don't have the energy to speak.

Yes, it can be part of the illness. It can also be down to being tired as sleep deprivation also causes a similar affect.

I know it is something I get at times and my bf and parents always pick up on it.

When I'm low, I apparently speak slowly and quietly, with no emotion behind it and apparently I look 'odd' aswell. My dad always says "I can always tell when you or your sister and down because your face looks pasty and lifeless" or something like that..yet, at the moment, he can't tell so maybe he just said that as bull.
