vet chat?

i have asked liv to consider a veterans chat room. just wanted to see what you guys thought aswell?

i dont know about any of you others but sometimes the younger users are a little...for lack of a better word, annoying. sometimes i just want to come into chat and speak to people of a similar age and it isnt always that easy to do in the main chat rooms.

i have heard that it has been done before in a similar way to the new staff/mod room but the password/code was found out by non-veteran users, i was thinking if each individual had there own code as part of there profile it mite work a little better? i know this may not be possible or practical just an idea though. let me know what you guys think as i know in many ways it will put extra stresses on the mods etc i know it may not happen.

i appreciate everything that harley and the rest of the staff do here and i know that the mods are volunteers and have a fairly thankless job and all that jazz. i didnt make this thread to rip people apart or to flame anyone just wanted to know what others thought.

thanks for reading and post honest opinions please :D

Hai Shauny.

i think that in theory, it is a splendid idea. BUT.. (queue list of buts)

- i am unsure how we would ensure that only over 18s were in a room.

-i am 25 years old, but i have received excellent support from some members who are under 18 in the past.

- I think a lot of the younger members benefit from being told 'it wont always be like this' kind of thing.

- The majority of members that i see talking about boobs and willies and general inane banter are over 18 so i dont necessarily think it will be a more 'mature' room.

this is true on several fronts and as i said i am aware ti failed the last time it was there, obviously there are things that would need to be "policed" so to speak etc. i am not saying the boobs and willies thing is what is winding me up its more the supporting the youngsters thing that has been winding me up, there ahve been alot of times recently where (naming no names) there have been proverbial brick walls i have been trying to support both in main chat and PM and was seaking a way to get away from that, as i have personally found that older members of the site are more open to advice etc than the younger members. yes i know i am generalising here and i am aware there are some older people who are brick walls etc and there are younger members who are awesome at supporting etc obviously. thanks for the input though guys its appreciated :)

I just think it would be too quiet.

it may be quiet and i can imagine it will be alot of the time but i would personally see it as a potential respite for the days when my AMP flares up a little i am not saying its the only room i would go in because 85-95% of the time i am more than happy to support others regardless of age but for days when i am bad...its been alot more recently as my meds have run out...it would be a nice escape if that makes sence?

I voted no, but I can see in a way how it would be good as sometimes I don't like some immaturity myself but always up for a laugh. I just don't see how it would work as someone is bound to leak the passcode to get into the room to someone under 18

i beleive thats what happened the last time so perhaps discussions on possible other security measures for the room itself could happen?

thanks for the input and thanks for the honesty thats why i made the thread :D

Though I've noticed most of the older members don't talk as much about their problems. It would be interesting to see the current age demographic on RYL.
as there are alot of other things on this site based on trust we would have to assume people wernt lying about there age and there is as i say room for discussion of the whole thing. thank you for your input :D

I don't think the capacity to be annoying is age specific :)

Stop thinking about what I want, what he wants, what your parents want. What do you want?

This. Nor is the unwillingness to adopt changes or even consider them. Also, a chat room would be far too quiet to be useful, in my opinion.

This is actually one of my problems with Vets, an attitude that vets are somehow different to the rest of the forum. Being over eighteen might have some different issues (work, housing, money, babies, whatever) which can benefit from specific advice, but as people communicating there is little difference.

i am not the most regular user of the forums to be honest i am far more enthused and less confused by the chat, i dont think i am any different to anyone else but ask the chat regualars about the amount of drama on chat recently and the age of the instigators etc that is the only reason i have personally been asking what people opinion of it are. it is not just me that is getting annoyed by this or i would of had a grumble and moved on

I basically agree with Charlie, and as usual, Claire.

Would rather use a chat to discuss issues than a forum. There can be more direct communication. Vet supporters could be involved in the vet chat.

On a forum you hang out whatever and then wait. It's also likely in a forum there will be responses which are not relevant. A forum is more intimidating in that you need to post it publicly, in chat you can always use private.

Yes you can private message on a forum. There's still an issue of delay. Sometimes a friendly ear is needed with some immediacy.

But I'm a new person here and sometimes grumpiness sets in. When so grumpy I fuss that talking doesn't help. Sometimes it doesn't even if I'm not grumpy.

Apologies that I'm not a teenage self-harmer. I'm an adult whom has panic attacks, and feelings such as rage, loneliness, joy, complete numbness, sadness, depression. Friendly ears and voices are nice to know in close to real time. Forums don't offer that intimacy.

I won't deny quite a few offered that I could private message through forum. That's great and appreciated. A chat would be too. Each way has its own benefits and disadvantages. There should at least be an option.
