Pain is a sudden way to bring you back to reality from numbness, it's not the best way however. What good things can you experience to bring you into the here and now? Perhaps there's a food that you love to taste, a fragrance that you like to smell? Something smooth or fluffy or rough that you like to feel and touch? A piece of music you like to hear? A picture or photo you like to look at? I find engaging my senses brings me back to reality... perhaps not as fast but it works. I like to light a scented candle and watch the flame flicker and smell the scent and feel its warmth. Numbness is hard to break but it is possible and I believe that you can do it.
