has anyone been to A and E before harming themselves as a way of prevention and to have someone to speak to?

What happens?
Is it ok?

I've been a few times.
Usually you see the on call psych, or if it's late and they're not on, they ask you to either stay in overnight or come back the next day when they're on, or, I have in the past been told they can't really do anything and to contact my psych or GP or whatever.

But, more often, you'll be told to see the on call psych, you'll talk to them, they'll assess how much at risk you are, and get a feel of what's going on, and they go from there.

But, it varies from place to place on what happens, above is just what has happened with me before.

I have hun. I just told them how I was feeling and then waited for a psych

it was fine, i had no problems, just had to wait around a bit for on call psych but yeah it was totally ok. x

I have, a number of times. I found it more beneficial to go before harming myself.
It's pretty much the same as going when you've SH'd except without the medical treatment. I just went to the counter and gave my details, said I'd like to speak to someone from the MH team, and waited for triage. Saw triage, gave them a brief overview of what I was struggling with, they called the on-call psych., and depending on the time of day/night, I either saw them or the crisis team.

Ive made an appointment to see a doctor today to see if he can prescribe me anything to calm my head down...not sure he will as i dont have a good record with pills..but my husband can take care of them...i just dont want and cant cope with feeling like this all the time

Hi

I had a bad experience before. Waited 5 hours for crisis team who didnt bother to turn up, then was given a diazepam and told to go home. The next day I OD'd anyways and ended up back in hospital.

One time I was taken there by other people as I was a danger to others/myself. I seen the psych straight away and almost got sectioned, but i voluntary went inpatient for a month.

Thank you Dash. I did mention the lack of funding, as thats why the psychotherapy was turned down(i think) and probably because they dont like me...and they said that the funding situation was dire right now...so probably not x
