New Years Resolutions...

Is anyone making them? I usually don't because I tend not to keep them, but I really want things to change in my life and am considering making some this year... Off the top of my head:

1.) Get a new/better paying job.
2.) Cut back on drinking and going out.
3.) Start exercising regularly.
4.) Be more creative (Music, art, writing, etc.)

I tend to be a very black and white thinker, so I hope I don't bomb and fail at these.....

Thoughts?

I think resolutions can be made any time of year so I don't tend to wait till NY to make them. I think yours are cool though.
I hope you don't beat yourself up if you don't manage them though. I wouldn't see it as a failure. Just that you'd perhaps need to reassess how to go about the resolution if it's difficult to achieve.

Stop thinking about what I want, what he wants, what your parents want. What do you want?

Pretty much agree with the above. Resolutions don't need to be made at New Year, it's just another day. Most people fail to keep them either because they aren't totally committed to it or because when they fail they see that as having to give up until next year. If you want to change something in your life you can do that at any time of year.

I think that making new years resolutions is not a bad tradition, because in my opinion it is a way to try and make it a good year. Even if you don't achieve any of the things you wanted to achieve, you started the new year with positive things on your mind.

My new years resolutions are:
to start a job training
find a vaulting group where I can improve
take a picture of myself every day
maybe become avaulting trainer (do weekend classes / workshops for this)
and that I make it through the year without having to be hospitalized.

I'm thinking about writing a letter to myself that I'm going to read at the end of the next year where I put in a list of my goals and something to reward myself for each goal that I achieved.

Asphyxia - I think your resolutions sound great and really positive! One good thing is that - especially for #2-4, they aren't extremely concrete goals. For example, let's say you don't really exercise much at all now, but you manage to do it a couple time a week for a month or so, then you might slack off a couple months, then get back to doing it more often again. If something like this were to happen, I wouldn't say you failed at your goal, but instead that you made a great improvement in trying to reach it. Fact is, if that were the case, you'd still be exercising more regularly than you had been, and that's kind of a goal in and of itself. Best of luck!

I just went on a search for the New years resolutions for 2011.

This year I'm going to make a list of things I want to do in 2012. There is a customer at my work that does this every year and I think it's such a good idea.

I feel most of it is going to be work related this year but we shall see, I'll have to have a think about it.

Life can be beautiful if you let it.

Eat more healthy, cheaper food, and less chocolate.

Thanks for the input everyone! I agree that you don't need to make resolutions on a certain day, but I sort of feel like this is a good year for change. (And New Years is kind of good for that.) I am hoping things work out on this end, and I wish all of you the best of luck with your resolutions.

Take me away, I just want out from this self-imprisoned self-made Hell. Don't be surprsed, this is your mind coming to life by self-sacrifice. This tragedy of death will walk hand in hand with every thought of regret. Blame yourself for what you've become. The mind is a powerful thing set to self-destruct.

I'm not sure yet. I've been suffering quite a bit lately with anxiety and know I need to see the doctor so I've been telling myself that my main resolution for next year will be to get and accept help.

Otherwise, get a better job, something I enjoy. Not really going to set any others because I never stick to them anyway, ha!
