Help... treatment for BPD
Hello,
I managed to stop cutting a few years ago, but I'm facing difficulties with depression, anxiety and reality and I've been referred to this called 'intensive psychological therapies service'. I work full time. I'm damn good at my job but this treatment says that it has a 3 day programme. Does this mean I'm supposed to be away from my job 3 days a week? Because that's impossible right now :/ how can they expect it of most people? They expect me to be a total **** when I'm not!
I may be typing weird as I've just taken some sleepy pills but too stubborn to let myself rest and sleep.
I'm changing jobs, my diabetes on the verge of becoming injections for live vs stomach band surgery that will forever and utterly any self worth I have for my BPD.
Anyway, it's a plea for help - any knowledge of "intensive psychological therapies service", or experienced it and have some insight I need you right now. please. I'm buying razors for the first time since I was ww18. Please help. Please.

Hi there
You posted this an hour or so ago so I'm hoping you're currently sound asleep and having sweet dreams and will read this in the morning. I'm afraid I don't have experience with "intensive psychological therapies service"... it sounds kind of odd. By three day does it mean just three days from beginning to end or three days a week? Both are pretty intense but surely the person who referred you would know you work full time so day hospital/whole day treatment wouldn't be an option for you? But then I am giving the health system a lot more credit than perhaps they deserve.
From your post, I know that you do need help with a number of different issues that are pressing. Do you have regular sessions with a therapist of some description? Have you ever looked into seeing a dietitian? The right sort of help is out there, you're not alone.

Hi,
I fell asleep eventually. Having to take another sleeping pill tonight otherwise I won't settle :(. I'm having to wait until next week until I can call the team who wants to refer me and talk to them about the realities of this. The team is awful - my GP sent them the referral six months ago and they claim they never recieved it, and had to do it again. Then they didn't even send me an appointment letter. That pissed me off. So no, this isn't the shining crop of the NHS :S
I'm currently seeing no one for my mental health problems, which doesn't help, although I'm about to start seeing a specialist dietician, which will help my diabetes. I was hoping to get some long term weekly or bi weekly talking therapy that wasn't CBT. Who knows, this could be another **** up and I could still do that. It's a shame; if I was offered this after I had dropped out of uni it would have been the right time. Shame the NHS where I used to live was even worse...
thank you for replying.

I've been referred to "Intensive Psychological Therapy Service" too, I haven't been diagnosed with BPD because im too young, but I have all the traits and what not. I haven't started yet, but I have an assessment in Jan. My care worker told me that the IPTS thing is DBT. He said it's weekly individual therapy, and then weekly group therapy. I'm a full time student so I am in the same position, but they've said it is only a maximum of about 3 hours a week. I guess it varies from trust to trust, but that is the policy where I am.
