Contains abuse - Why can't I cry?

For months I've really been feeling like I need to cry. I've tried lots of things (onions etc).
Whenever I was sad I used to cry and it really helped. So now that I can't cry the sad is building and building to a point where I just want to chuck in the towel and cut again.
The only thing I can think of that has contributed to this is my exs treatment of me.
Whenever I would cry he would say "You always cry. It has no meaning anymore, you're just crying for attention." Then when I'd apologise he'd say "You say sorry all the time, it's lost all meaning now."
Towards the end of the relationship he didn't even try to comfort me. He just laughed or ignored me.
He was so horrible to me. At the end of the relationship we had an argument and he came over saying "I'm not happy, this had best be good. Come on then, what's your excuse?" All I had asked him was if I could be friends with boys.

Like, remembering this makes me want to cry but I can't.

Well you could try a really sad movie or listen to a sad song that might help.
Is there anything else that you can think of that has made you sad like a family member dying or something like that.

I wish I could give you some of my tears I seem to cry a lot lately.

First I am sorry that you are feeling sad. I think crying can be a great stress reliever so I am sorry that you are having trouble crying.

I am glad your ex is your ex. You deserve better then him, much, much better. You deserve a guy that doesn't look at your tears as an emotional burden to himself, but looks at them as a sign that he needs to be extra attentive to your emotional needs at the moment.

I have been in situations where I can't cry and needed to. I probably will have those days again, soon. In the past if I needed to cry but was having trouble I woulf think about the saddest thing that has happened to me or someone I loved and then write about it in detail. Writing for me has not only helped me bring my emotions to the surface, but by bringing them to the surface I was able to reprocess them and gain a different perspective.

I know richshine and I can't give you any of our tears but I will be glad to cry for you if that will help.
