Counselling - did it help you?

As the question above states, would like opinions.

I found counselling pointless and entirely useless. But then people on the autism spectrum don't often benefit from talking therapies apparently. And the counsellor discharged me soon after I started hearing voices. Thankfully no-one's offered me counselling since then.

PM me if you want a PDF copy of the ICD-10 or the Mental Health Act 1983/2007. I ALSO HAVE THE DSM-V BOOK and am a pharmacology student.

I have a visual impairment / neurological problems so I need people to type in clear text and no funny fonts. Also excuse any typos, my vision blocks things out.
I have autism and have problems communicating, PMs included.
Just becasue I type well doesn't mean I speak well. I am only part time verbal.

I didn't really think it was helping at all...until I've gotten to this point where I've been going so long, doing the same thing over again and now its like its really made me stop and look at myself. It certainly didn't absolve all my problems and create inner peace for me...but its a good start, its the first positive start towards being a happy person that I've ever made the choice to do and I'm happy I am doing it.

therapy/ counselling has changed and to be honest saved my life. I would not be here today without it I don't believe. It is an activity that I will have to engage in a regular basis for many years I think as it does assist me in maintaining a level of functioning.

I do understand however how it can be difficult for those on the spectrum to experiencing the counselling/ talking therapies in a positive manner. There are some counselling services where I live that are specialised in assisting those on the spectrum as there is a need there but also an understanding that traditional ways of service delivery don't meet their needs adequaltely enough.

But for anyone, talk therapy may not be the answer - it also has a lot to do with the professional-client relationship that is developed as that alone can be much of the catalyst for change according to research.

life isn't about finding yourself, it's about creating yourself.
