De,entia is an odd one. I am lead to beleive that patients with dementia can remember some things but not others. Something like the long term memory not being affected but the short term is. But obviously in some cases all of a patients memory is affected so yeah. I really don't know what I'm trying to say but oh well.

There are many different types of dementia, some more permanent than others and some which respond well to treatment. There are also types of dementia which can seem to come and go - The fine one minute, definitely not the next kinds. Sadly, dementia is a condition that runs in my family, so I know how hard it can be to see someone struggling with it.

I think your speaking to him helped, but I do not doubt he most likely had dementia of some form.
