Team change...I'm scared...

Hi,
I haven't written so much on the forums, but have seen what a supportive group of people there is here...

There is a big transition in MH services in my area at the moment: the CMHT is closing, people are going to new CMHTs; I have a new doctor, whom I've only met once; my psychologist is leaving; and I've been referred to more specialist support...

It's fairly anxiety making, and I am scared to meet more new professionals; scared that I'll deal with it by switching off; or by pretending that everything's ok....

I'm not entirely sure what I'm looking for in posting, but somehow thought it might be good that I at least write down the fact that I'm scared.

thanks
Lila

Coping with changes in teams is really really hard, I think it's understandable that you're feeling scared about it, especially as it sounds as though there's a lot that will be changing for you all at once. I don't think that the powers that be consider the importance of continuity for people in services when they make such drastic changes but I won't even go there because I'll just end up getting on my soap box.
The one thing that you've put that sounds like it could be a really positive change is that you're being referred to more specialist support, I don't know what that will mean for you but hopefully they'll be able to offer you better support and understanding.
It's a lot to get your head around right now when you haven't gotten to know the people taking over your care, but once you've gotten through the transition and are more comfortable with your new team hopefully things will get easier. What was your impression from meeting your new doctor?
I'm glad you've felt able to post here and ask for support, think it helps sometimes just to be able to connect with other people who might share similar experiences with you.

Take care,

RBT x

I give myself very good advice
But I very seldom follow it
Could explain the trouble that I'm always in...

Thanks for taking the time to reply and give me some encouragement, RBT.

My impressions of the doctor were very positive - which is great in itself, and particularly so because I also rated and trusted the previous doctor a huge amount.

The specialist services are for dissociation related "stuff". I don't know yet what they will offer - my psychologist has been negotiating with them to some extent, as it seems I don't quite fit the box - fairly severe symptoms, but also functioning at work and in daily life for the most part. What I and my team have worked out, though, is that when the support/input is lessened, I find it harder to manage the symptoms, so somehow the support is necessary, even when I'm functioning. Does that make sense?

oh = too much talking, Lila. Sorry.

and thanks again

Yes, it does make sense. Hopefully the specialist service can meet your needs better than a general CMHT.

However, it must be anxiety-provoking and unsettling, not quite knowing what exactly will happen. I really hope you get the kind of help you need. x

thanks.

trying to remind myself that the support is exactly that - a support to my doing the things i can do to stay well and safe - so i can continue to try to do those things, even when the support changes.

oh. blah. it's harder than i'll allow myself to admit.
