I was just wondering if anyone else has withdrawal effects or notice if you've forgotten medication. I get accused of it being psychological, but I don't actually notice I've forgotten until I start to feel unwell.
I was also there's no way that delaying my medication for a few hours would have any effect. This was written in a reply from a complaint to the hospital by "senior" staff, yet I disgaree. My psychiatrist told me that after 8 hours of not having diazepam, you begin to feel anxious... so surely if I was already at 8 hours and then they delayed it so it became 11 hours, it would have some effect?
At the time this happened I was on diazepam, citalopram, amitriptaline, propanalol and quitiapine.
hey, i'm on fluoxetine and forgot to take it for three days as i had been away and not unpacked it. i had not even thought about it but started to feel fuzzy, dissociated and itchy. my mum went through the usual list; have you drunk enough today? yes have you eaten today? yes have you taken your meds? oh crap. so i definately had sideaffects before i noticed. hope that helps in some way
I get withdrawal effects if I forget my medication. I had a couple of days when I couldn't take my Mirtazapine because I'd left it at my sister's, didn't think it would make any difference for a couple of days because I was on the lowest dose and I still had my quetiapine and propranolol. I only realised that I'd had withdrawal when my ED nurse pointed out that the two days that I'd really struggled with my anxiety and impulses to self harm and purge matched up with the days I hadn't taken all my medication. It hadn't occurred to me until then so the effect definitely wasn't psychological.
Benzos such as diazepam do cause withdrawal effects, especially if you've been on them for a while or if the dose is high, that's why they're so difficult to come off when you've been taking them for a long time.
It's obviously a pain when you're in hospital and are reliant on staff to give you your medication on time, but when you're at home could you set alarms on your phone or something to remind you to take it? If you have a smart phone there are free apps you can download to remind you what you need to take and when to take it, I got one for Android from the market and it's pretty useful.

I give myself very good advice
But I very seldom follow it
Could explain the trouble that I'm always in...
I tend to notice within a few hours of not taking my medicine, I get very strong withdrawal, feel giddy, sick and have to lie down... then if I ignore that, my symptoms start to pick up and get worse as well. In short, not pleasant. I am very susceptible to withdrawal though...
I am on a high dose of Venlafaxine, but have had similar things with other meds in the past.

If the Human brain were so simple that we could understand it, we would be so simple that we wouldn't.
When dextroamphetamine wears off, it can cause some nice dysphoria among other effects for me.
As to how long a drug will last, that varies from person to person. Some people are deficient in certain liver enzymes, while others have plenty. So yeah, the time it takes for withdrawal effects to show up varies from person to person.
Im on citalopram and i can forgot & not remember and feel fine for a couple of days, but if im on my way to work and dont have it on me, i instantly feel light headed/sick/anxious, so tbh I dont know,I think its often in my head.

I can notice withdrawal effects from the quetiapine as well, though I'm on XL so it's not as quick. I would also think diazepam may give you withdrawal effects if you have been on it for a length of time.
Do you think it would help you to set alarms on your phone/iPod etc at the times you are meant to take your medication? I am forever forgetting to take my 6pm medication ~ I can remember the rest but 6pm I don't so I have an alarm on my phone. This might be useful for you. It may be that once you are in a pattern you won't need the alarms or maybe you will but it doesn't matter just so long as you are getting your medication when you need them. xx
