Relapse of SI - Advice Needed
Hey there,
I haven't SIed in a little over six months, and I'm feeling a relapse coming on. Life has been pretty stressful lately, and I recognize that this is a factor in the urge to SI again. I know there are several resources on this site to aid with this, but I was wondering if any of you had any personal experience and advice to give me?
I am seeing a counselor every two weeks, and they do know about my previous SI. However, I told them this has been resolved. In a way I don't want to bring it up for fear of what may happen.

Hi there,
Firstly, I just wanted to say; well done on not SIing in 6 months. That's an amazing acheivement! You should be really proud of yourself.
I always find at times when I'm under a lot of stress is when my SI is at its worst. I know you said you don't want to bring it up with your counsellor but for me that was one thing that helped the most - when the urges did come - talking about them made them ease up. What is it you're afraid of happening if you tell them?

I'm very wary of my counselor just because I don't know him that well yet. I'm actually being transferred to another one once the school year begins because he does not work with the school that I attend.
I suppose I don't want to mention it just because of the mess I got into for mentioning it to a school counselor back in the eight grade, and because I see how much it hurts my mom. They are, after all, required to inform your parent or guardian.
I think at the moment I can still handle the urges because I am swamped with summer assignments, but school starts in two weeks. I left school last year on a really bad note with my classmates; I haven't had contact with them for almost two months. I think that's where the main stress comes from; I worry how things will be.

Well done for doing so well for so long :D
Stress is a huge problem for most of us, I think and one of my biggest triggers.
Is there any chance you could mention to your parents that you've not been feeling great and that you're feeling anxious about school? Even if you don't talk with them about SI, I'm sure they will feel valued and included if you talk to them about the other stuff.

My mom knows how anxious I am about starting school again, and there's really nothing she can do about it. I keep telling her and she's like,.. "Yeahh,.. So at work today,.."
But oh well. I'll get through it. =)

six months is great!
things are stressful when they're hanging over your head as things that you need to do. especially when they're big things, they can seem really overwhelming, and make you too intimidated to start. but i've found that usually the stress of working on them is way less than the stress of thinking about how much more i've got to do. i guess thats a long way of saying that i think the best way to destress in this sort of situation is to dive in and get going on the work. you can start in the middle (i often find that easier), you can work in small blocks..... but getting going on it is often a huge releif
