I'm so cold [serious thread]

I don't have an eating disorder, and am just about on a healthy weight. I've lost some weight though due to chronic stress.

But I'm so cold.
I'm wearing a Winter jumper indoors today, and I'm still all shivery, and have goose pimples on my arms.

My flatmate thinks it's weird I'm wearing a thick jumper. She says it's not that cold. She has the bathroom window and the back door open. But I'm freezing. Not just today, I've been really feeling the cold this past week or so.

Any ideas why?

^That.

Could be stress.

Or maybe it is cold (it SO is) and she just doesn't feel it!

I can't close the windows as it's not my decision. [Though they got closed when the rain tipped down!]

I'd mention it to my GP, but you know how GPs can be with non specific physical symptoms where there is a mental health diagnosis... and all my hormones and thyroid etc are 'normal'. Or they were 3-4 years ago.

I guess it's my poor circulation exacerbated by stress, weird Summer weather, and a virus a few weeks ago, and PMS. Having air con at work and on the buses on high even when the weather is chilly doesn't help either. I've always had wonky temperature regulation as it is.

I had a bath earlier. That helped.

Thanks. :)

It's embarrassing when people say things like my flatmate, that it's 'not that cold', like it invalidates my experience. So thank you for validating my experience, it means a lot.

I understand where you are coming from, my mum and both my sisters are always cold, and you know they are not faking it because they actually have goose pimps on their bodies!!! I'm the opposite, I'm always hot and sweaty with the windows open. Maybe its a blood circulation issue that needs sorting with the doc as in my mums case. It might be worth checking out.

Keep warm xx

I had that a long time. Turned out it was anaemia. My GP had "forgotten to tell me" so it just got worse and worse until I was really ill. Messes with your vitamin C too, so you're more prone to get small viruses that make you colder.

Have you been tested?

^ A while back, yes.

Thanks for the replies, all. :)

I think I have a virus again/still. Plus the anxiety is playing havoc with my body. Because last night I was either too hot or too cold, could feel every lump in the bed, and only slept about an hour.

This isn't terrifically helpful but I'm currently freezing, so you're not alone! I think some people feel the cold more, to be honest, so there's no reason why you can't wear a jumper and other people wear t-shirts. You're different people and that's allowed :)

I was shivery at work today in a cardi and long sleeved top. But my colleague had a t-shirt on and wasn't cold. Mind you she's going through menopause! The air con was set at 22 degrees, but it felt more like 12!

Wear lots of clothes and try to put some weight on as if you are feeling colder than others it's probably something about you rather than the environment.

I feel cold when I'm tired.
Just thought I'd throw that in there! If you haven't been sleeping well and are run down generally its likely you will feel the cold more.

That said...according to my boyfriend I'm really hot (:P)
- seriously I always feel really warm to touch apparently (except my hands) even if I don't think I'm too warm.

I wear enough clothes, without getting out all my winter woolies and having everyone think me weird, and putting on weight is easier said than done in my case. Life can be made to sound so simple when it just isn't!

Amy, you're probably very right on the tiredness.

I am relatively thin and always get cold really easily, like a light breeze on a hot day can make it too cold to go without a jacket. It's not unhealthy to feel cold when other people are warm enough or even too hot.

I'd keep an eye out for other things that might indicate illness, but feeling cold when other people aren't is not a big deal, otherwise I could be considered perpetually ill.

It's not nice feeling even more marginalised than I already am, so reassurance is comforting.
