Positive recovery post - Here To Help

Hello everyone. I am not so new to RYL. I joined a long time ago back in 2000, but I have come back. I want to help others. I want to spread to the world the facts and information about Self-Injury Awareness. I am a survivor of self-injury. I say survivor because this word rings true to me. Self-injury nearly took my life, but I am happy to say that I am almost three years recovered. I would love to help out anyone who is looking for it by giving an encouraging word, some to talk to who knows what you are going through, or just a 'shoulder' to cry on. Please feel free to message me here, on skype (refer to my profile) and soon yahoo messenger.

Sincerely,

Angelina

Wow, congratulations on being free for three years! Wish I could do that- I can't seem to make it past a month. It is inspiring to know that other people have recovered.

Thank you both. If you'd like someone to talk to feel free to message me.

You guys should celebrate if you have even made it one day. I know how difficult can be to go for long. But take it a moment at a time and you will make it.

I think its pretty amazing that you've gone three years and even more so that you want to help others. I hope im not out of place saying this... Ive tried recoavry, ive tried quite alot of times but i always end up relapasing badly; so i think that for me (and maybe others) that just letting it run its course and along the way ill try to reduce my sh but not stop cos i think that in time the urges will stop on their own. I know its a little messed up but the other approach- the one where i actively choose and try to recovar doesnt seem to work for me. Sorry for hijacking.

The BRAVEST thing
I ever did was
CONTINUING MY LIFE
when I wanted to die.

Days Gone By, that isn't necessarily a bad thing. Sometimes it does just run it's course. I may have almost three years of recovery under my belt but I still consider myself a self-harmer. It's like the addict approach. They say that once an addict always an addict. You take one day at a time. I don't say that I will never cut myself again, but I am positive thatthe chances of me using that to cope when I have a problem are unlikely. I have learned how to express my emotions in healthy ways and that helps to keep me from repeating the unhealthy behavior.

thanks :) yeah i guess so, i never feel as though i have achieved anything until i get to a week though, and then i usually end up giving in not long after that :( but thanks for posting, inspiring to see that someone has actually made it and then came back to help, i'd love to be in that position someday in the future
