anyone work in retail? Specifically Sainsbury's

I've just been accepted for a job at sainsbury's (woop) but i'm anxious about my arm scars, is there a long-sleeved version of the uniform available?
What do people here do?

I don't work in Sainsburys but I do work for a food retailer (would prefer not to mention it on here). I work in two, actually, one in term time and another in the holidays (as it's alongside university).

For the term time one, we have a t-shirt but most people wear a long-sleeved black top underneath or a jumper so you get away with it.

For the holiday job, I always used to just keep my jacket on and we're not allowed to wear long-sleeved black tops underneath. I approached my manager at Easter (who I barely knew at that point) and told her that I had scars and would it be possible for me to have a long-sleeved variation of the uniform. She was really nice and got it ordered for me and it arrived within a week. She has to wear long sleeves because of tattoos, herself, so wasn't especially bothered.

As to Sainsburys specifically, perhaps go on the website and find out what the uniform is like? My retailer has the uniform variations on posters and everywhere, so you always know where you stand with it.

Hope this helps :)

ah cheers. Yeah i was thinking of having a word with supervisor at some point, they all seem really nice so shouldn't be an issue.

I WORK FOR SAINSBURYS. You can get long sleeved polo shirts, or long sleeved shirt. What department are you working on?

I have long sleeved shirts and then roll the sleeves up, people there are used to my madness. In fact most of them are mad in their own way.

Congrats on getting the job.

I don't have much advice, but just talk to your supervisor. (:

Congratulations on the job!

This. I had one long sleever shirt and one short. If I was working in chillers I'd wear a different long sleeved top under my short one to keep warm.

Most people wont really mind.

The staff in the sainsburys round the corner from me sometimes wear fleece type things with long sleeves. Maybe that would be an option also?

whimp Tiff. I just have a t-shirt on most of the time when working down fresh.

Also they normally give you a fleece or a jumper as well as the top. Don't get a jumper.

GET THE FLEECE NOT THE JUMPER.

Shut up Sarah, you're insane, I'm not. Therefore, I win. Chillers are cold when you're there all the time standing around trying to find something.

It's only because I run around a lot I guess. Plus when all the customers go away I take my sainsburys top off and just wear my own t-shirt (which I had on underneath), those polo shirts are itchy and give you static shocks.

To be fair, I was a HUGEE wimp the other day and wore a big duffel coat that's only meant for the freezers, whilst I was in the chiller. However, I was in there with the door shut for around 45 minutes date checking the stock. It was very, very necessary.
