New therapist

Hi everyone, i haven't posted in a really long time, but i was wondering if anyone would give me some advice.
I just started with a new therapist last week. This week's session was not great, i didn't know how to talk to her. It's like that "Cat's got your tongue" thing whenever i see her. I always get nervous, but i wasn't sure how to talk to her today and i had alot on my mind, so instead of opening up another "Pandora's Box," i kept it very short and simple.
I guess that it's because I'm afraid to let her in. I just finished with my other therapist after having her for 4 years. She was absolutely amazing, and i don't know how i'll make this new therapy relationship work. I already feel defeated and like crap.
Any related stories that are positive, positive feedback, etc would be of MUCH appreciation
Thank-you,
~ dance59326 aka Melanie

can you write her a letter of some sort? or bring notes on what you want to talk about. sometimes its easier to start talking about the less serious things for a bit to get to know her better.

after four years, you probably know your old therapist really well, and you know her techniques and suggestions.... this is a chance to get another perspective and approach. it doesn't mean that the old one wasn't good, but trying something different can give you some surprise advantages and more range of tactics. its like if you're planning on being an artist, you wouldn't want to take classes and learn from just one person. you'd want to master a range of styles

this is my magical medicine cabinet. Left to right they contain: courage, hope, calmness, and strength.

The magical part: They NEVER run out, so borrow some any time you want.

PM me anytime, I love getting messages :)

It must be very difficult for you to have that transition from somebody you've known for four years to someone totally different.

Please try and give yourself and your therapist time. When you started with your previous therapist, how did you feel? I expect in your first few meetings then you were also anxious and questioning whether to trust. That's not a bad thing - I think we all do this.

I hope it works out for you and that in time you feel able to open to your new therapist. Be gentle with you. xx

hey ! I know how you feel. I had my therpist for 13 years and then she went away for a year, to raise her son. I had to get a new therpist. I hated it at first and I missed her so much. When she came back I wasn't aloud to go back and see her. I had to stick with the new one. It was a juge adjustment. But it takes time. It took me a year to share thing with her ( but thats me, I have alot of trust issues) Write it down, doddle when you talk ( that helped me millions !! ) but first comes first don't rush it, its only your second session. Shes not expecting alot out of you either, because she understands. I am sure she knows a little bit of your history. If you need someone in that moment because you feel down, you know she is there and that is better then not having anyone !!! Best of luck sweets.

I TOTALLY had the same problem. But now my therapist is like a friend and I talk to her about anything. You just have to give it time and try your best to talk more each session.
Hope all goes well!
