Antidepressants
Hey , ive been on sertraline, mirtazepine and citalopram and they havent really worked, i thought the citalopram worked but after six months i had a major relapse, im currently off meds and have been for 6 weeks. I struggle with eating -which ive only just come clean about and i'm having blood tests and what not , then my gp is deciding what to do with me tomorrow.(tuesday)
My depression has taken a dip again and now i have food issues well just makes it worse. I think i need to be bk on some form of anti-depressants but i have no clue what will work and my psychiatrist, who I dont see anymore, said she would want to put me back on citalopram.
Im so confused, im currently on sleeping tablets because i just dont sleep anymore but my GP doesnt trust me with tablets because i have a history of ODing , she wil only prescribe me 7 at a time. I think i need something to help me a little bit but i have no idea... its so dam frustrating
Sorry for the rant

Hi there,
I'm sorry you are struggling right now and I'm glad that you have been open adn honest about how you're feeling and what you are struggling with. This is really positive for you to get the help you need.
Personally, it took me a while to find an anti-depressant that worked for me, and it was a case of trial and error as to what would work best.
You say you believe that citalopram helped you but you suffered a major relapse, did something cause this relapse? were you under a lot of stress at the time or had some bad news? Anti-depressants are good at helping raise your moods so that you can work on your issues and feel better, but they do not necesarily "stop" depression and if you had a stressful or hard time than they aren't going to necesarily stop your emotional reaction to that.
Anyway, I think perhaps you should discuss your options with your doctor, and go from there.
I hope all goes well, take care

ive been on loads of anti depressants, none of them worked for me except venlafaxine, which is a particularly strong one ive been told. i didnt get any side effects from it and it really helped.
but yeah, do talk to your doc hun x

I had the same problem with Citalopram too - It worked for a long time and then it just stopped and I fell into a relapse, just like you.
I am now on Fluoxetine - I started about October and it worked until I stupidly thought I was okay and took myself off it and then I just went a bit loopy - and my BPD got out of control. I have just put myself back onto it and I am sort of feeling really mixed so am going to talk to my GP tomorrow so I definately agree that you should go and see your gp *hugs*

I was lying with every nerve and fiber and everything I'd ever done...I wanted him to find no good in me, and he didn't. There is none.”

Sadly, medication is one of those things that is difficult to get right and it does take a lot of trial and error. I know I have been on a lot of different ADs.
I am now on Venlafaxine and Mirtazapine - which is the first sign of anything having worked for me, and in the process I have been on a large variety of others.
I hope you can speak to your Dr and look to change your meds or to seek other treatment options that may be more suitable for you.
Roiben x
