Hello, can you recover without medication?

Hi, this was recommended to me by my boyfriends boss whose fiancée is bipolar like me. I began to get depression when I was 8 but it turned severe at 13 and has now developed into bipolar disorder. I have been trying to cope alone without professional help because I was told the NHS cant help me till i'm 18 and private is too expensive and wont pay for me because its 'not serious enough'. I'm going to see a doctor on Tuesday (14 June 2011) about finding a therapist or psychiatrist because it's got out of control but I wanted to know if you can be successfully helped without medication because I really don't want to go on any
Thanks
C

medication helps, my sisters has a mild case of bipolar and she doesnt take meds, well she has them but she doesnt like to take. she's kind ofish alright but if you have a strong enough mind you might make without the aid of medication although i wouldnt recomend it,

Hello,

I have quite bad bi-polar and have had it since childhood too.

I have heard of people coping without medication in mild cases but in my opinion it really does help if you get the right one. It might take trying a few different ones to find the one which suits you.

Remember bi-polar is a chemical inbalance so the medication simply helps rebalance your chemicals to make everything even again.
