Can't chat

Yep. I am travelling at the moment, so am using an unfamiliar connection, but it is my laptop set up as always and I am logged in as soon as I connect to RYL.

Clear your cookies/cache, log in and try again.

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried logging out and back in (with remember me checked) and I still couldn't chat. I also tried deleting all my cookies, logging out, logging back in (with remember me checked) and still no joy.

It occurs to me I haven't tried logging out before deleting cookies, so I'll go try that in case my being logged in saved the cookie that is causing the problem.

Follow up - still can't get into chat...

I tried logging out then deleting all cookies. I did not have the box for retaining favourite sites checked, so all cookies should be gone. I closed the tab, opened a new one and came back to RYL. Arrived not logged in (unlike my usual experience), so the cookie does seem to have been deleted. I then logged in, clicking remember me, and still when I click on "Enter Chat" I get a pop-up with the main page and space to log in. After closing that window I am still logged in in the forums as I am posting this message without having logged in again.

Any other suggestions, or explanations of what I've done wrong, would be appreciated. I am staying in the hotel for the next couple of days then going home - failing anything else, I hope everything goes back to working normally there, which would imply to me that the problem is the internet connection.

Browser is IE 8.

I haven't changed any settings on the laptop from the way it is at home, and at home the pop-up does go straight into chat, so it seems to me that the problem shouldn't be in my setup - instead it should be a connection issue (the hotel's broadband connection is pretty slow) or an issue at the RYL end.

Having said that, my technical skills are sufficiently limited that I'm not sure what the answer to your other question is, beyond saying the setup is unchanged.

In the front page within the pop-up window, if I press F5 to refresh I just get the same front page, with me still logged out... but, if I press on the link to the forums I get the main forum page with me logged in.

I have had the perpetual blue screen before too, but never this log-out-and-go-to-the-main-page problem.

I can't try another browser, I don't think there is one installed on this machine.

Update - now back home. Chat working fine again. Thanks for the help, everyone, and I hope the problem doesn't re-occur for anyone. :)
