So i have been having a hard time lately so my psychiatrist put me on Abilify, i just started taking it today and i am wondering what others have felt when they first start taking it. and then how do you know when it has started taking full effect?
I've actually just started on 10mg today myself. I made a thread about starting this which is further down the page. I've been on it before, but briefly. I had quite severe nausea and vomiting last time however i am taking it after eating this time and hoping that helps. I was warned it might make me feel a bit jittery at first. it takes a few weeks to really start working and i guess you would know if it was as the struggles you experience now would be alleviated somewhat.
sticks and stones may break your bones but words can tear your heart out.
ok, i will look for your post, i did try to find others on abilify so i wasn't doubling up, but i guess i skipped over it.
well i feel sick a lot of the time any ways so i don't think that will be hard, and i am a caffeine addict, so i feel jittery a lot of the time...hopefully it will work...
I had taken it and it didn't really do much for me but I tend to be very sensitive to meds. I didn't have any real bad side effects that I can remember. I have heard some good things about it. Best wishes
I'm on aripiprazole as well as olanzapine and I suppose it helps a bit with my negative symptoms (ie motivation, mood, concentration etc) but I am said to be somewhat treatment-resistant. I did feel pretty nauseous as the beginning.
What dose are you on?
Oh and make sure you take it in the morning - unlike many other APs it may cause insomnia.
PM me if you want a PDF copy of the ICD-10or the Mental Health Act 1983/2007. I ALSO HAVE THE DSM-V BOOK and am a pharmacology student.
I have a visual impairment / neurological problems so I need people to type in clear text and no funny fonts. Also excuse any typos, my vision blocks things out.
I have autism and have problems communicating, PMs included.
Just becasue I type well doesn't mean I speak well. I am only part time verbal.
im on 5 mg for a week and then 10. Ive been pretty nautious, and hove felt a little off balance. but then again im also anemic and am drinking lots of caffiene...so its hard to tell whats what.
That's what I did - started on 5mg for a week, then 10mg. Now I am on 15mg. I felt like that when I started it. Best not to drink too much caffeine (I believe it can reduce the effectiveness of some APs). What sort of anaemia do you have? Iron deficiency? Are you taking iron supplements?

I am on 30mg. I dont get sick off it, like other people. I found no side effects at 15mg but on 30mg I feel a it restless and twitchy. But nowhere near as worse as some of the other stuff i have been on.
I had to go off of it because it made me really twitchy. There is a technical term, but I felt like all my muscles were twitching and moving, and I had a hard time sitting still or focusing

Akathisia??
Btw, my psych says it takes 10-14 days to build up to steady levels and thats when its effects should start. Its slower than others to work apparently.
Has everyone on the thread been titrated up the doses? like 5mg 1 week, 10mg next week, 15mg week after? I just went straight on 15mg then 30mg after a week. o.O
I was titrated 5mg for one week then left on 10mg (in addition to my long-standing 20mg olanzapine). Then I got admitted onto the psych ward and was put up to 15mg aripiprazole.
