I got very tired and nauseous from it, didn't notice increased bleeding though. Everyone reacts differently, I always get side effects quite badly though. read the leaflet that comes with them to see the likely side effects, any should go away within a few weeks anyway.

I'm on 40mg/day now, and it doesn't cause any increased bleeding that I've noticed.
Good things I have noticed: for me, it seems to make the suicidal thoughts less intense and less frequent. At this higher dose, it seems to help somewhat with my anxiety.
Not so good things I have noticed: it doesn't help much with the depression otherwise. It also makes me tired, and gives me serious squalls of dizziness and vertigo which have not gotten any better after four months on it (doc says that's a rare side effect, though). At this dosage I've also noticed it gives me weird dreams.
Always bear in mind, too, that you not only can question your docs, you should. It's in your own best interest to make them explain things to you until you're satisfied. They should be happy to oblige you.
I was only on this for 4 days as it made me extremely nausest to the extend I was pale, dizzy and throwing up.
I hope this works for you though and I know its hard to not listen to others and their own experiences but everyone reacts differently to each med... *cuddles*

r.i.p my beautiful girl jackie. i will love you always no matter what - 6/5/10
I haven't experienced/heard of it causing increased bleeding.
My personal experience was that citalopram didn't help the depression much. I'm glad I'm now off it as I had agitated/self-destructive episodes which almost disappeared when I stopped it, although I was still depressed.
Hey, I've been on Citalopram over a year and a half, with a month exchange onto Mirtazapine which was baaad... so back on the citalopram.
It was alright in the short term, but now it's not really doing much other than being in my body..
I haven't experienced increase bleeding either, but you can always ask your doctor. Maybe tell your teachers that you have started this new medication. If it makes you nauseas and tired like it did me, it may affect your exams, and your teachers may be able to apply for some extra time or something to help you out! Good luck with it, and good luck with your exams!! xx
Where did your friend get this information from? If you are concerned about the medicines you are on, why you are on them and any potential side effects then make an appointment with your prescribing Dr and get them to explain them to you.
Most side effects do not last long, and are only when your body is getting used to the chemical in your system. Do not worry about what your friend has said, it sounds to me like they are stirring...

If the Human brain were so simple that we could understand it, we would be so simple that we wouldn't.
i got terrible dreams and disturbed sleep from citalopram/celexa. i had none of the bleeding business, though. in general, it caused me to have racing thoughts which were completely unmanageable, which is why i stopped it.

I'm on 60mg of Citalopram a day and I've had no adverse side effects really. Not that I've noticed anyway. Tablets like Citalopram affect people in different ways, if you're worried you're probably best off talking to a professional.
I had terrible side effects with my mood when I first went on it - but I was in hospital so things were pretty crud anyway. However after that I was fine on it and felt it did me good and if I hadn't gone high I would still be on it.

Is a chocolate muffin loving glitter ball
I started on 10mg in December. I've been upped a couple of times and am now on 40mg, and it helps a lot.
Pros: Intrusive thoughts and catastrophic thinking are way more under control. The urge to SI is more under control. I don't burst into tears nearly as much. I'm happier and more able to be social. I have had 0 panic attacks since I've started the medication.
Cons: The first two weeks on the medication were hell, with headaches and severe nausea. My sex drive is not nearly as intense, which I don't mind. I dream or remember my dreams much more often.
But remember, it's different for everyone. I've never heard of anyone having bleeding problems.
I took 5mg of escitalopram yesterday morning, and I felt nauseas, and didn't even want to eat lunch. I haven't taken todays tablet, but I still feel nauseas and nervous, and I'm not sure if I can take another one. Do I have to put up with this for a few weeks?
The only problem I had with Citalopram was I couldn't stop yawning. I self harm but I never had any problem with increased bleeding.
"John, being brave is going where no man has gone before and with Lizzy Stark, that is NOT what you'll be doing!" - Aunt Polly.
“I told him I was going to betray you, and betray Lyra, and he believed me because I was corrupt and full of wickedness; he looked so deep I felt sure he'd see the truth. But I lied too well. I was lying with every nerve and fiber and everything I'd ever done...I wanted him to find no good in me, and he didn't. There is none.”
I took that one when I was 17. I remember yawning alot, and I got some restless leg. I stopped taking it because it made me manic, and I had a really bad mixed mood. Works well for different people I guess. Never heard of the blood thing though, the mood stabilizer I'm on does that.
