How do I get into it?

So recently I've had a bit of a problem.
I all of a sudden was unsure of what I want to do with my life.
I have always thought that I wanted to be a performer, but recently I've thought that I wouldnt cope, and that I should pursue something else.
When I was thinking about this teaching kept coming to mind.
Now I think being a teacher would be a great idea as I love working with kids, and if I was a teacher I'd want to be an aproachable one, because my school experience was very bad. I'd want to make it better for other kids.
All I know if that to apply for teacher training I need a degree. How do I get one, and exactly what is it?
Can someone give me some infomation or a website which has all the infomation please?

R.I.P Nan. Love you always.

Hi!

The tda is probably your best first port of call (http://www.tda.gov.uk/). There are loads of ways of getting into teaching; are you looking to do a degree (normally a seperate degree in something, mine's in English)? If you have a "normal" degree then often you can go on to go a PGCE (post-grad cert. ed,) which gives you QTS (qualified teacher status).

I'm starting my teacher training now/in the next few months. I've been working as a music teacher for a couple of years and have been brought upn in an educational family. My mum was a science teacher, then a head, now she runs an educational consultancy company and is responsible for alot of Ofsted. So I know a fair bit about teaching! PM me if you need anything lovely x

You need QTS (qualified teacher status).

To get this you can do a normal 3 year degree in virtually any subject at any Uni and then apply for a year long teacher training course (PGCE) tailored to the age range you want to teach (primary, secondary etc) at the same or a different uni.

Or some Uni's now offer degree courses that combine a 3 year degree with teacher training so you graduate with a BA/BSc as well as QTS within the 3 years.

Obviously you will need A levels to get onto any of the degree courses.

This website has good info http://www.tda.gov.uk/get-into-teaching.aspx
