Crisis team?

I'm getting very close to breaking point and have been told by many people to call them.
I have a massive, massive phobia of calling people I don't know so it's going to be nearly impossible for me to do so... so i'm putting it off until it's pretty much at the point of no return so I have no choice.

I just wanted to know peoples experiences of them?
Like what did they do/say?

Do they just come out and talk to you, do they do more than that?

I recently got discharged from being an IP in hospital, im worrried they may suggest becoming IP again and I don't really want to.

I just want to know what roughly to expect from them if I do end up calling.
Thanks.

I called crisis team last night for the first time. It might be good to ring them and talk and the lady was lovely when I spoke to her - even though I kind of shouted at her but that was her fault, to be honest. It does depend on who you get so if you get someone you don't click back, ring back when the shift ends or in a few hours or something.

It's worth a go if you're feeling bad. I'd go for it :)

Hey, just wanted to let you know I read your post and I care :hugs: .

My experiences of crisis teams are generally quite good... I have rung them at any time of the night and they have been helpful and supportive, even if it's just to chat to someone for ten minutes to distract myself from suicidal urges.

They have sent the home treatment team to me once before, and I had someone visit for a couple of hours once a day for a week-- it does tend to be only short times though.

Please try your best to ring them if you are feeling so low, what have you got to lose?

Hey Jessy,

Obviously there will be variation between teams and you might not get on with every member of the team. I know not everyone here has had the best experience with crisis teams but I just wanted to say that mine was really positive. They can't fix everything and sometimes their suggestions might be annoying (distraction distraction distraction) but generally they will do a lot to help.

In my area anyway the Crisis Team and HTT were the same thing so they would come out and speak to me, every day for a while when I needed it, and they would call as well, more than once a day if necessary.

It gives you someone to talk to and it may be more helpful than calling a helpline because they are professionals in mental health, also they are able to come out to you and put things in place to help keep you safe. They will do everything they can to keep you out of hospital; crisis teams are there to help minimise hospital admissions so they'll try really hard to work with you in the community. Especially if you're willing and able to work with them (in my case I would promise not to do X until next time I saw them, or call them in certain situations).

I only actually called them once and I was absolutely terrified so I can really relate. I am terrible at calling people but it was the best thing I could have done and the thing is, they are going to be used to people finding it difficult and will know how to deal with it. For me the number was just the CMHT number and you had to be put through which for some reason I found really scary so it helped me to plan in advance exactly what I was going to say (i.e. "could I be put through to the crisis team please" - but it was hard lol). It might help to have some idea of what you want to say to start off and give them an idea of what's going on for you.

I hope that helped a little, I understand that it's a scary prospect but they are there to help, they're used to dealing with people with similar problems and it really sounds like you could use the support just now. Look after yourself, feel free to PM me if you need anything. x

"I know you're sad, so I won't tell you to have a good day. Instead, I advise you to simply have a day.
Stay alive, feed yourself well, wear comfortable clothes, and don't give up on yourself just yet.
It'll get better. Until then, have a day."

Thankyou, yeah I think that would be helpful for me if I planned out what I was going to say before I rang.. maybe if I wrote a bit of a 'script' ha.

I have an out patients appointment on the 6th june, now I'm starting to panic about that, haha.. Anyone know what they ask at these things? I'm awful at talking face to face so would prefer to write things down before hand, but i can't really write things if I don't know what they're going to say..

I've managed so far to avoid the crisis team.. each day feels as though it's getting harder and harder though, and I just really don't think I have the confidence to call them..

I've never yet called the crisis team because of the usual reasons but one of my dbt therapists works for crisis so has told me i have to call her this weekend so im bricking it. But she did also say that sometimes it is useful to call them before you are at utter breaking point because you are more likely to use them when you are at the end of your tether.

I dont mean just phone and say hi ya just fancied a chat lol but try call them BEFORE you reach that point (it will be easier).

any hoo good luck!
