Peace Corps Can Be Dangerous For Women

Women who were assaulted while serving in the Peace Corps have been trying to get changes made in the program. There have been a lot of assaults and the Peace Corps downplays them. I've often though a lot of young women go into these programs not really informed about the potential dangers. I know a lot of gals here like to go abroad with various programs so I thought this should be posted.

Some of those comments were disgusting. The world makes me sick. Yeah, so you've been the victim of an assault which will probably leave you emotionally scarred for the rest of your life? Yeah, we a) don't care and b) are going to make you feel even more worthless. Dicks.

Wow. Disgusting. It makes me sad those women had to deal with any of that...A close friend of mine almost did the whole peace corp thing, and I am very glad she didn't. It is sad that women have to be afraid to help others due to the potential possibility of assault...

I did have a Teaching Assistant in one of my favorite writing courses in college, and she did Peace Corp, and loved it...But, I don't think I'd have the courage to do it.

I hate how these women are not being respected.

It kind of makes me want to puke or something...It makes me so sad...

I saw Peace Corps returned to Liberia last year. That place is a real hell hole with constant violence (including cannibalism). I would never let kid go in Peace Corps if I had a say.
