Yes (ironic, talking to someone about it who's the same now, but I shan't give names!). I think mine stems from my 136. They lied to me and treated me really quite badly for someone who had just tried to commit suicide. And I have paranoid thoughts that they're going to lock me up for being "crazy" or doing something I haven't done.

Yeah, its not the police themselves just the power they have.

Yes I hate police they scare me they work against me they never listened and they're liars they scare me I get into trouble as I used to shout at the community officers who came whilst I was ip. Some police I respect but the ones I've known are horrid and secretly plot with eachother to make life he'll for me nasty people

Yes I do not like the police, I do not trust them at all. Black cars and police cars make me panic.

I get all nervous when I see a police car or an ambulance drive past. The ambulance nerves I can understand but not the police. Perhaps it's because they're professionals and they hold a reasonable amount of power. Just know you're not alone.

There is a black car. That pulls up outside my house and its s herse showing me who I've killed recently. I don't mean to they just take over my brain an use powers. That is also why I don't like police

I dont like the police either, because they always seem to side with the criminals!

I don't think I have a phobia of police but I know I don't like being around them. Whenever community officers or the police walk towards me I get really scared they are going to stop me and in turn this makes me even more nervous walking past them and everything snowballs.

I have a phobia that the local police will recognise me. I wouldn't be surprised if they did though as I was pretty darn violent when they sectioned me three times on a 136

PM me if you want a PDF copy of the ICD-10 or the Mental Health Act 1983/2007. I ALSO HAVE THE DSM-V BOOK and am a pharmacology student.

I have a visual impairment / neurological problems so I need people to type in clear text and no funny fonts. Also excuse any typos, my vision blocks things out.
I have autism and have problems communicating, PMs included.
Just becasue I type well doesn't mean I speak well. I am only part time verbal.

I am not sure if I have this... Police and other authority figures do make me uncomfortable though and the sirens and bright yellow jackets et al often set off or worsen my social anxiety. I think because they are often there when things go wrong, so I associate them with that.

Yeah i hadnt really thought of it as a real phobia, but i guess it is really. I darent speak to police, and get so scared, because of the amount of authority they have-being able to take my freedom away. The sound of sirens scares me, and i worry they will put me away for a crime i havent committed.

Well i cant say i have major issues with the police in themselves.

However for me their sirens really trigger me now and can make me stupidly afraid especially when im home and i hear them. Both sirens from police or ambulance.i know this is because both the ambulance service and police have had to come out to me many times before when ive overdosed or others have had concerns for my welfare [and with either i never knew they had been called at all before turning up] and though on the whole theyve been very good ive never felt comfortable with it and am so frightened of it happening again. They got me taken to the hospital a few times too and now i always worry when i hear a siren they are coming to get me again.

i really struggle with it [and think about it happening a lot and fear this greatly even on ordinary days when not heard sirens etc to set me off] even though the last time any of this actually happened to me [the police actually coming out to me] was over a year and a half ago and the numerous times before that are over four years ago but know this may not be quite what you mean or the type of reply you expected.Sorry.

Also do you know why you have the phobia and is there anyone who knows about it/you feel you can talk to?It must be very hard to deal with at times.i understand if you dont want to answer those questions though or dont feel you can talk to anyone in real life.

i hope things get easier for you and it was good to learn that fear of the police does actually have a name - just for future reference so thanks for that!

If you want to talk anytime know i am here.

Best wishes.
xx

i do not always manage to be around but i wish you all the very best - love and luck to you all!

I went through a phase after my s.136 in the summer and following autumn where seeing police officers in those reflective vests and four-door policevans would send chills down my spine because I was detained by them in one. However, I'm completely over it now. I've been treated well 80% of the time I've had contact with the police 3 times involving.. myself.

It's understandable when some don't treat you well and it's easy to dislike or even hate them as a whole, but there are many police officers who are simply doing their jobs and have a passion for it. If you speak to a few in an er.. non-urgent/non-confrontational situation, you'll find many are just.. you know. People. It'll help you overcome at least some of your phobia. It's also helpful to know that if one does badly mistreat you, you can get their badge numbers off their shoulder pads (I know there's another name for them, but it escapes my mind) and make a complaint to the IPCC.

Yes! I'm terrified of the police and anyone like that!! They're all conspiring with each other and spy on me, waiting for me to make a wrong move and then they'll lock me up! I know it will happen! They always seem to be around when I go somewhere so it's definitely happening.

Thanks for the replies :)

I haven't read them properly yet but will when I have time. I'm desperate for a 'cure' but I don't think there is one. Good to know I'm not alone though.

For ages, and still now when I'm stressed, I would feel compelled to 'salute' an emergency service vehicle as it went passed (like one salutes a magpie) or the person they were going to would die and they would come and take me away for being so evil.

Imperfection is underrated.

Thanks for all your messages, it's really good to know I'm not alone. It's a real fear. I've never really had a run in with the police. Although, I have called them for something before.

I did do something I probably shouldn't have though. I basically wrote a white lie on a form for a uni assessment (DSA assessment) saying I didn't have a laptop when I had a broken one. I then had my face to face assessment and explained I had a broken laptop (so told the truth) and they gave me a desktop (and other equipment) but then the broken laptop got mended so I told the assessor and he said don't worry the equipment they bought for me is mine and to keep it (I asked if they wanted it back)

Sorry if that makes no sense. In short, I can see there might be a reason for me to feel I did wrong and fear the police but I can see that there must be a bigger picture.

If any of that makes any sense, please do reply as I'm not sure it does. Thanks for reading.

I'm not afraid of the police, I have been lucky enough not to have been involved with them when my mental health was bad. When I was sectioned I was already in hospital, so the police weren't needed.

However, my dad is a policeman so I've never felt afraid of them, and as a kid I'd often go into the police station to see my dad and stuff.

The police dont get adequate mental health training which is why some people have bad experiences (but being forcibly sectioned is not a pleasant thing in itself) but most of them genuinely do want to help and try to be as gentle as the situation will allow.

Isn’t it funny how day by day nothing changes but when you look back, everything is different…
