when my parents found out from my auntie, i didnt want them to know so i refused to tell them so my auntie told them. i asked for help and they said if you carry on. well duh im going to carry on, anyway i have not had help and probaly never will. this will be a problem all my life, and i am not going to deny it because whats the point in lying to yourself?
anyway, i get down about the fact that my parents are probally in denial. hey ho thats life. i self harm to 'sooth' this emotional pain and because i have low self esteem, stress, self hatred.
i dont currently want to stop because when my auntie asked if i had done anymore i lied (obvs) and i feel aslong as i keep lying about it to the ones i love then i am not ready to stop. plus i just dont feel ready.
this post doesnt really have a point but i want to know.
what were your parents reactions?
did they get you help? if not why?
when where and why did/do you self harm?
I'm sorry you haven't gotten much support from your family... there are some ways I can relate...
To answer your questions, my parents were shocked when they found out. They punished me the first time, sent me to therapy after the next few times, I was put in the hospital after a few more times, etc (they've found out about at least 6 different times). The funny thing is, that, they never really 'supported' me through any of this. They had a mindset of- 'we're just trying to make you stop. there's not anything we can personally do for you... just get over it so we can move on." I never had a say in the therapy or hospitalization- that's just what they put me in. I self-harm when I am really down on myself, things are going wrong at home, or even if I haven't done it in a while and it starts buggin me. I do it because I have much self loathing. Also because it numbs me when I feel too much, or makes me feel when I'm too numb. I self-harm in lots of places... pretty much anywhere I can reach :/
I really hope you're doing alright, and that you get the support you need. Always feel free to send a PM if you need anything or want to talk :)
*hugs and love*

We are male and female. We are artists, athletes, and students. We have depression, PTSD, eating disorders, bipolar disorder, or maybe no diagnosis at all. Some of us were abused, some not. We come from all walks of life and can be any age. We are every race or religion that you can think of. Our common link is this: We are in pain. We self-injure. And we are not freaks.
maybe they aren't in denial so much, it may be more that they just don't know how to help and don't want to do anything to make the situation worse. having an honest conversation with them might help if you can trust them enough to do that. you can say what you think that you need, and what you think that they could do to help you.
if it turns out that your parents are still not supporting you the way you need, maybe you should try and rely on your aunt more instead, and she might be able to help more.
even if you don't feel ready to stop yet, there are things that you can do to ease some of the pain. maybe you could talk to a councelor at school, if not about the SI, just about whats bothering you, and how you can cope with it or change the situation so that its better. starting to work on some of the things that trigger you to harm is always a good thing, and when it comes to when you want to try and quit, you'll be partially there already. just having someone that you confide in is really helpful. or you could try keeping a journal, write about what you're feeling. it can really help sort out your thoughts and get them out of your head. and i find it helpful to always try and find some good things that happened during the day, even if they're small.
this is my magical medicine cabinet. Left to right they contain: courage, hope, calmness, and strength.
The magical part: They NEVER run out, so borrow some any time you want.
I'm sorry to hear that. I never got much...well, any support from my parents really. At first, when they found out, they tried to "fix" me by punishing me, etc. After a while they got tired of it I guess and they just resorted to pretending I'm not really their son. It's been like that for five years. It does really suck, though, when the people that are always supposed to be there for you no matter what aren't there for you. I really hope that doesn't happen in your case also. If you ever need to talk, feel free to talk to me.
