*hugs* there are people who care.....
finding a reason to stop is something that i think that lots of us struggle with at some point. and finding the motivation to make a positive change in life is something that everyone does, no matter how healthy or well adjusted they are. especially when it takes alot of effort to make that change happen.
you've pointed out that it only helps for a bit (im thinking that you mean SIing here, if not, this may not apply). and as you know, after that little while, everything just comes back, often scarier and stronger than before. and it gets into a vicious cycle. replacing SI with a positive coping mechanism, and with proactive ways of dealing with problems and emotions lets you actually feel better, even if theres a bit more effort needed at first. and afterwards, when you've coped without hurting yourself, or when you've taken steps to solve the situation, you feel better. and can feel proud of what you did and the decisions that you made.
