I was the one who posted the topic "how did you tell someone you self injured" and I actually told my guidance counselor today. I thought I was gonna die, but it was OK in the end. My mom was shocked though and made me promise not to do it again, and took away my blade.....I don't know If I can keep that promise but I wanna try. She's sending my to a psychologist, IDK when though. So I wanted to thank everyone who replied to my other thread for giving me the drive to actually go through with it. THANKS
Firstly, well done on telling someone! That's a really positive step and hopefully you'll be able to get the help that you need.
It sounds like your mum cares about you, but doesn't necessarily know how to help you. Do you think you could try and find some information on the internet and give it to her? To help explain that it won't be a case of just promising to stop and being able to keep to that promise, but that you are going to try really hard to get through this.
I'm glad to hear you reached out for help. I agree that maybe you could print some information off for your mom to help her understand more, because promising someone to sotp usually does not work. You need to want to stop for yourself, and sometimes slip ups happen. Promising can be a very tricky thing. I'm glad you're getting some professional support.
*HUGS* congrats!!! When I told my guidance counselor she asked me if I wanted to be in the room when she told my mom or not. I was so terrified I said no. When they finally came and got me, my mom mostly cried and forced me to show her my arm. At that time I only had one cut on my arm and the rest were on my leg. She took me out of school and brought me to the drs where I saw my favorite NP who really helped my mom out. So did one of the nurses we knew as she went through the same thing. The np printed out a list of therapists in the area and answered all of my moms questions. When it came time for my NP to examine me she made my mom leave which I was thankful for. She told me that she could tell something was going on with me whenever I was there, she just didn't know it was this.
Anyway, just wanted to share my story with you. I would def suggest you find some stuff on si info for your mom. Here is a link to a book that you can either buy for your mom, see if the library has it or show to her to see if she wants to buy it, http://www.amazon.com/When-Your-Chil.../dp/1572244372 It really helped my mom out more even though its been a couple of years since she's found out and looked up stuff on the internet herself. When it comes to psychologists or therapists to begin with don't be afraid to switch if you don't like someone. It's kinda like you shopping for one, you have to look for the right fit..... It's always nice to have someone to talk to that doesn't judge you..... I'm very proud of you for what you've done. It takes a lot of courage and strength to do it. I don't blame people who are hesitant because telling someone is probably one of the hardest things you'll ever do.

Well done, we're all proud of you! Hope things go well!
Take care x
I never thought I'd feel this
Guilty and I'm broken down inside
Livin' with myself nothing but lies
I always thought I'd make it
But never knew I'd let it get so bad
Livin' with myself is all I have
I feel numb
I can't come to life
I feel like I'm frozen in time
Well done on telling someone dear. I'm glad your mother is there for you, to try and help you to get through this. *hugs* I hope you stay safe. Good luck.

It was hardest thing I have ever had to do in my 16 years of existence. At the time (yesterday) I was mortified, humiliated and terrified, but slightly relieved at the same time. I went to my General Physician today ( I got to leave school early YES!) And he gave us some recommendations to psychiatrists. He suspects I have Clinical Depression, which makes sense when I look back at the last 3 years. I don't know why I didn't get help sooner BEFORE it got this bad. Well I'm getting help now and that's what counts I guess :)
That's great! I'm so glad you're getting help :) Telling someone about SI is sooo hard... I don't think I could do something like that. Very well done! I really hope this works out for you- good luck!
*hugs and love*

We are male and female. We are artists, athletes, and students. We have depression, PTSD, eating disorders, bipolar disorder, or maybe no diagnosis at all. Some of us were abused, some not. We come from all walks of life and can be any age. We are every race or religion that you can think of. Our common link is this: We are in pain. We self-injure. And we are not freaks.
I haven't, and I doubt that I ever will unless someone confronts me about it. I hope that I'll have the strength and courage to follow your example one day.
