I am currently:
drastic change in meds

hi,

saw the locum consultant psychiatrist today, she's replacing my normal asshole of a psychiatrist whilst he's on annual leave. this woman was lovely, first time i've seen her. my cpn came to the appointment with me and did alot of the talking for me and i helped her along with stuff too.

the locum asked me lots of stuff about my mood swings...what the last manic was (the worst was not this summer just gone, the one before) and she asked me to explain that for her and i said to her since i've been on the seroquel the manics have been dampened down...i don't get them anywhere near as bad.... she asked how long the highs and lows last for and stuff like that...

i know i am diagnosed with borderline personality disorder....and the locum said she thinks i sounds very bi polar and she has increased my seroquel from 250mg... then for one day take 300mg and then onwards 400mg and has also prescribed me venlafaxin 37.5mg for 5 days then 75mg after 5 days...

my bf and his family have known me for 7/8 months and have seen my lows (not yet the extreme ones), my bf has seen me suicidal and knows i self harm and has been around when i did quite a bad one or two...
but they don't think i should take the med advice this locum has asked me to do... my family haven't said much...

i and my cpn spoke to this woman ...my cpn saw me when had my last manic and she explained that i was had sex wth 3 people in 5 weeks (i've only slpt with 5 people in the 6 years i've been sexually active) and i got myself into debt and smoked cannabis and i had pressured speech, not sleeping, doing 3/4 college assignments in a night due to lack of sleep and all that stuff... so she knows this stuff..

something else the locum said was that she thinks the reason i had feelings of restlessness and stuff when i was on fluoxetine, sertraline and escitalopram (the drugs i tried prior to seroquel) was because i wasn't on a mood stabilising drug...

though my bf and his family haven't known me like that due to the seroquel..and disagrees with what this locum has done..

what do you guys think?

plus... what have people experienced with venlafaxin? does it make you drowsy?

I guess I would just try it, see what happens you might feel tons better, you might not but then at least you can stop taking meds if they dont work, if you never try you never know xxx

I guess you just have to trust the psych. They know what they're doing! Hope the new meds make you feel better!
