I hope someone can help me here. I've been SH-ing for 18 months and I think I'm ready to stop but I'm not sure... Anyway I've been thinking about going to see the school nurse because in France we don't have anything like school counselors ! I just wondered if she will tell my mum or not ? & also does anyone know how I might be able to bring the subject up ?
I live in the UK and I did a similar thing. She put me straight through to a proper team in my area after a week! She didn't tell my parents as she still fell under the same health acts :)
I would imagine it's the same*ish* in France *hug*
To say I'm completely devoid of morals, would be harsh. Although I would have to admit I find it difficult to give a ****.
How old are you? I wouldn't count on it. Sorry, but I think she's likely to tell them unless you are 18+. In all my friends' experiences they have (although they were all in the UK). They usually do this thing of not telling anyone for a week or two but then they do to cover their backs... it's not their fault, it's so they don't get blamed for anything if anything bad were to happen. But sorry :(
Yeah Scotland does work differently from England. In Scotland it's 16 that you are guaranteed full confidentiality. Although my school psychologist had to break confidentiality even though I was 17 at the time but that's a whole other story.
I'd say talk to her. Ask her what her confidentiality rules are first so you have a fair idea what she'd so.
Good luck!

You're right. I think I was 17 at the time, I never had any confidentiality broken. I believe though (in any country), if they think you are a danger to yourself or others, they have *every* right to report it.
I think? :/

^ if you have plans to kill or harm yourself severely, have a date, plan and the means to do so then they need to report it. Same with harming others. Some people tend to report sooner than others. Some may report at the mention of these types of things and others may asses the situation first. OP - this is why you should maybe ask your school nurse about her confidentiality policy before you go into much detail. I really do hope you decide to get some help though - it'll be better in the long run. x

Ye get help. Final word from me though, don't let them make you think something is wrong that isn't? You get some who just try to 'flog' something at you. Most people don't get diagnosed, they're just having a tough time :)
Good luck!

Don't know how it works in france but I think in england they have to tell your parents if they're concerned about your safety and you're under 18. If you're not comfortable telling your mum maybe you could think about talking to someone in your family, if you have any siblings or other family members that you would be happy talking to? That way you can talk your feelings through and not have to worry about any immediate repercussions. Feel free to PM me if you want to talk.
I'm 16 now. I might try and go in to see her tomorow but I may not have the time (or courage) because she's only there part time :/ I really don't think I would be considered as a danger to myself as I only *cut* lightly ... I'll keep you all posted anyway :D Thanks everyone xxx
depends on your national laws. Here in the states the school has to tell your parent up until your 18
Then wear the gold hat, if that will move her;
If you can bounce high, bounce for her too,
Till she cry "Lover, gold-hatted, high-bouncing lover,
I must have you!"

ON a related note, this takes tons and tons of guts. Props to you.

Yeah I have noticed that you need a lot of courage !Today, I tried to go and see the nurse but I didn't actually have the guts to go in and speak with her !
