Signature Questions.

I read something, somewhere, about "Signature Bracelets" for Self Harm & Eating Disorders and Mods/Admins NOT allowing dates & what you're free off.

So does that mean my Signature is against the rules?

There was no need to bump your thread after only ten minutes!

The rules were made because of the competitive nature of them, and because it makes you feel a bit **** if you have tried to support someone and then they edit their signature to say they've just harmed themselves. If you ask Aimee (Aimee in Wonderland) or another mod they'll be able to tell you if your signature is okay or not.

On a different note, some sigs are massive! Did we not have some restrictions on the sizes?

Big sigs really annoy me. There should definitely be restrictions.

Then wear the gold hat, if that will move her;
If you can bounce high, bounce for her too,
Till she cry "Lover, gold-hatted, high-bouncing lover,
I must have you!"

I simply wanted an answer as soon as possible, because I didn't want to post on the boards and then get banned :/

@Freedom, as I said, I've read the post, but it still doesn't answer my questions.

A few things.

1) We don't ban people for small things like this.
2)I think your sig falls under this
Quote:
Having a date in your signature that is worded so that it is more "recovery-orientated", is also no longer permitted.

his includes not allowing dates in signatures such as -

"In recovery from self harm since - 23/05/2008"
"10 days self harm free!"

*returns to chat*

3) Her sig is a very nice size

Then wear the gold hat, if that will move her;
If you can bounce high, bounce for her too,
Till she cry "Lover, gold-hatted, high-bouncing lover,
I must have you!"

So, which one is it? There needs to be a consistency.

As for the size, that was an off-shoot of the signature question, not directly related. It was just a comment on the general state of things.

But in the thread that was linked it claims that it's not okay to write: 'self harm free for 2 years'. You gotta have some orange bracelet picture thing to do it?

I don't really get why but, hey, that's the way we are with rules here.

We kind of take the rule that if its for a long ish period of time, certainly over one month, its okay to say "three months free" or whatever, but no dates like "SI free since 20/01/11" etc.

Isn’t it funny how day by day nothing changes but when you look back, everything is different…

^ So.

And this is just a hypothetical situation, because I'm curious.

Could you put, Free since DAY/ MONTH/ 2008 or whatever?

Because that's a date, but a long period of time?

But why is it okay to say "I've been free for three years" but it's not okay to say "I've been free since DATE / MONTH / THREE YEARS AGO" ?

I'm not trying to be awkward or anything. I don't even want a date in my sig. I'm just curious. Just tell me to shut up, and I will.

you make a good point, arent we still allowed dates if it doesnt say what they're about so if I just add "18/06/91" (which happens to be my date of birth) to my sig that would be ok?

Not that I feel the need to broadcast my DOB under every post i make...

Having a date in your signature, without adding any text, will be permitted.

A date in a member's signature could mean absolutely anything ... and as long as there are no words or any other elaborations around the date, we dont see any reason to ban ALL dates from members' signatures.

Ah god bless RYL and it's oddly specific, not really beneficial rules and regulations. <3 Does cheer me up on a miserable day.

SarahSixx, it does look like I've made a mistake & unfortunately the signature (as I'm about to PM you, but wanted to clarify here for those watching) is against the rules - I'm sorry about that but thanks to those who clarified it for me.

There are several reasons for these rules.
1: signitures appear in general chat. Having a signiture with 'last Si: yesterday' on it in general chat is inappropriate as it could be triggering and that is a trigger free forum.
2: It helps remove competitiveness
3: by useing bracelets there are a defined set of dates, instead of any date being used; this ensures that the time period mentioned isn't too small and constantly changing (as has been mentioned above, imagine you are spending hour san dhours supporting someone, and every few days there 'time free' date in their signiture resets to zero.
4: There is space on your profile for this information, so potentially it takes a lien out of people signitures (yes, I know the e-bracelets take up space, but often if e-bracelets are used, no other image will be).

NB: these rules were brought it after a logn community discussion, it wasn't just something where the mods woke up one morning and thought 'oh, I know, i'm goign to spend 3 days solid making e-bracelets and make people put them in their sigs instead of dates'

If you don't understand a rule, instead of making snarky comments about it, it may be better to simly contact a mod and ask.

3. Could the person not just remove the e-bracelet after hours and hours of being supported. Thus leading those doing the supporting to feel bad because the orange thing that said '3 months free' has gone. Or has been replaced by a 'free' for a lesser amount of time? People are always gonna make it known how much they have SI if they want people to know.

Imperfection is underrated.
