college

I'm signing up for college on friday, access to teaching. I really wanna be a teacher, but i know i won't be good at it. I lack the confidence needed to be a teacher, and i don't think i could do the lesson plans and all the paper work. now days lessons have to planned out so every 5 minutes is planned. I don't think i'd be good at that, but i do really wanna be a teacher.

But then i wanna be a counsellor too. I think i'd be good at it. I think i'm ok at helping people with their problems. But being a counsellor would mean not being a teacher. So i don't know which one to go for. Access to teaching, or counselling? I don't think i'd be able to do both courses. Counselling is on wednesday evenings, and i don't even know what days the access course is. Maybe i could go to the college on friday and check out the access course, and then figure out what i'm gonna do. But then i don't wanna spend a year doing access to teaching if i'm not gonna go to uni to do teaching. Everything is so god damn confusing.

Heyyy
if teaching is something that you really want to do then go for it! The confidence is something that will come with taking the course. My mums a teacher and she wouldnt have been able to just teach...throghout the course everything is taught. Im sure you'd be good at planning once they go thru it all on the course, and you should put your worries aside and do what youve always wanted to. Also, if you did this year in a teaching course, it wouldnt matter if you didnt want to do it at uni. The skills you learn will be tranferable to other jobs, and at least you can rule at teaching and know its not for you.

with the counselling thing, no one has to have to same career forever! you could do teaching for a while and then switch and train as a counsellor. Alternatively you could do a wider course such as pyscholgy which is keeping your options open and would be helpful for either career?

sorry if this was no use :/
take care xxx

I was thinking if i did the teaching course next year i could do conbined teaching and psychology. i think i'll go to sign up for the teaching on friday and talk to them about it, and i can decide when it comes to apply to uni what i wanna do.

thank you for the advice. it really is helpful.

I actually am getting a degree in biology then doing some extra course work for teaching certification so that is also an option. you can have a degree in just about anything and get certified to teach.
